Second Test Thread

A big gwwan and congratulations to England. I got up at around 1pm and i was stunned, but pleased to say the least when my younger brother told me to the result. My inital reactions were kinell and dammmn! :D

Personally for me i'm really and absolutely gutted that i didn't get tickets for friday and saturday's at the 2nd test at Edgbaston, my nearest cricket ground. I knew that this match was an absoulte humdinger of a match. After watching the highlights of day three i had a sneaky feeling that the Aussies were going to pull of the mosty improbable comeback i've ever seen in watching cricket.

It was the best match in terms of momemtum swings and suspense imo since the West Indies beat the Aussies 12 years ago in the fourth test @ Adelaide by a single run (WI went on to win the series 2-1). I remember watching the highlights of that match.

This was the kind of test match i've always liked i.e. hard, agressive bowling, entertaining shotmaking from both teams. But above all the sportsmanship as from Warney (applauding Freddy on his match winning 73) and Super Freddy offering a hadshake and a few words of kudos to Brett Lee; who imo played one of the best innings of a tail ender in a long time.

For the first time in nearly 20 yrs i can safely say there's one hell of a battle and a contest in this already gripping ashes contest. Roll and just bring it on for thursday!

Next to the zoo was it?

I'd love OT to be a green seamer but it won't be. Old Trafford turns, always does.

yeah but surely now Stuart MacGill in, surely the greatest legspinner who couldn't get a bowl... at one end there'll be the miserly Warne, turning the ball square, and at the other there'll be MacGill maybe turning it even more stupidly, and he has a hell of a googly too.

I've been fancying England for my bets so far, but my bet for this one is Australia to come back, and heavily. Innings victory maybe.

MacGill is no where near as good as Warne, there's a four ball to be had every over regardless of how much he spins it. McGrath gone and now Blee a doubt; sheesh, Virgil must be odds-on for a 100 at OT.
If Aus go with two seamers at OT it could back-fire quite drastically if the pitch is decent. They could opt for Watson who is laughable at this level, and I fear for his stats against this England side; if I was an Aus selector I'd pick Symonds ahead of Watson, just for his dreadlocks.
Perhaps it's time for Tait, who bowls as quick as Blee and took 60 wickets @ 20 in the Pura Cup last season. But my word what a series to make one's debut in, this is starting to look like the greatest series of all time, no joke, Tait could wilt under the lights.

Whatever. Not our problem. Nice for the shoe to be on the other foot for a change re injuries; England will have no sympathy after the last Ashes down under when half the side were out injured.

Agree it should be a straight swap MacGill for Lee. One upside is that Lee is a very capable batsman and MacGill is absolutely laughable, he's even worse than Glenn McGrath. Tuffers could outbat this bloke.

However, MacGill turns the ball even more than Warne does, just doesn't have the same brain. During Warne's ban, MacGill played at the MCG on Boxing Day against India and was booed by Warne's home crowd and taunted with chants of 'Warnie'. I found it funny but felt so sorry for MacGill who isn't a bad player.

Two leggies at OT, one a legend, the other a good bowler is daunting. But as pointed out, two seamers (remember, Australia have no back up bowlers further up the order anymore) could be dodgy. We must bat first in any case.
