seaside town, 90mins by train from london.....

If you just want a nice beach on which to swim, paddle, ignore the amazing ecology of the rockpools, sit in the pub after a good long walk and drink one beer too many, then Cuckmere Haven is perfect. I'm not sure the pub does fish and chips, and sandcastles are only an option when the tide is out. However it's the nicest beach in the South East by one hell of a long way.

Walton on the Naze is a lovely little seaside town - like a quieter version of Southend. It has plenty to do if the weather changes while you're there and you end up needing indoor activities.

OooOOooh, I want to run away to the seaside as well now.

Are these places easy to get to/around without a car?

Walton on the Naze isn't very big, and the train goes there from Liverpool St, not sure if there is a station in Walton on The Naze, but there is one in Frinton on Sea, which is a short walk away

Cuckmere Haven is reasonably easy to reach by a combination of train and either bus or bike. You can't park close to it anyway. So the easiest way to get there is train and then bike. It's because you can't drive close to the beach that it's generally pretty quiet.

Harwich etc.....

Aint the old ones the best ! :D

Course if you want some edge - try Newhaven !

Tough call - but Littlehampton seems the best option , Frinton is quaint in a money , Edwardian Rupert Brook "we sell no fish and chips way" - but does have classic beach attractions etc.

I reccomend Shoeburyness in January for that special experience of fog bound , end of the world experience.
