Sean Lock - RIP

Heard about Sean's passing this morning. It's very, very sad as he was very, very funny and, one of the good guys.

Saw him in Lancaster a few years back at the Aston Hall which has a huge 25ft tall concert pipe organ at the back of the stage.
He walked on to applause and said through gritted teeth "I'm really fucking annoyed with this...I ordered a drum kit."

RIP and fuck cancer

I'm feeling this all the more today as I'm off to have some odd lesions checked out tomorrow morning 😟
Hope it goes well.

6 and 9 cracked me up. :D

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the firework scene in 15 Storeys High. That's one of the funniest most unexpected single scenes in any comedy I've ever seen.

I and theBoy always really enjoyed Blue Rat and Sean shouting "Oiii" from his balcony at passing cyclists in a bid to get them to fall off. Such fun.

The ping pong brothers upstairs and the Shetland pony in the flat.
His annoyance at his mat being moved could only be made so funny by him.
My friend was the spit of Sean with same humour. I posted him 15 storeys shortly before he died ( cancer) Been a very sad day :( .

Pretty much a comedy all rounder. Excellent on panel shows, perfectly timed interventions and the rest. Excellent stand up, plus good in his own sitcom (apparently, though I've never seen it). Not unique in being funny in all 'formats', though some comedians are not suited to different types of comedy. Stewart Lee famously awful on panel shows, even though he incorporates that failure into his routine sometimes.

I listen to the Richard Herring podcast. He has recently had testicular cancer, had to have one removed and went through chemo.
As of yet he hasn't heard from Stewart Lee. Bit rough that
If I got seriously ill and all my mates started crossing the street to avoid awkward conversations I wouldn't really want wankers from the past taking their place.

Having never seen his stand up before I’ve been reminded there’s a 1 hour stand up special from 2019 on All 4

I'll be honest, I didn't like some of his panel show appearances (he had a tendancy to shout over other people on QI), but I hugely enjoyed his standup show on C4 last night, and I've liked his appearances on what I've seen of Cats does Countdown

15 Storeys High was fantastic. It's a bit of a shame the way panel shows eat up talent. He was funny on the Cats Countdown show, because he was funny. Can't really blame him, because he could have probably paid off his mortgage and the rest of his street, but not the best use of his talents probably.

i wish there was a different format where funny people could riff off each other other than panel shows, but I much prefer that spontaneous comedy to pre-scripted (panel shows have lots of prescripted bits in them too of course)
