Scott Pilgrim

Yes I do. I just have a lower tolerance of bollocks.
Morrisons version of Doom Patrol is yet another version of him going too far up his own arse and thinking that his 'twists' that go nowhere are the new rock and roll of comic books. The invisibles is wank babble and he even writes himself into animal man. He gets better again though. We3 was pretty good. How did he go so wrong after the excellent Zenith.

I don't think it would be possible for me to disagree more. For me, Morrison's Doom Patrol is the most inventive and imaginative comic series I've ever read - it's also frequently hilarious. As far as superhero comics go, it's right up there with Miller's Daredevil, Batman: Year One, Moore's Watchmen and Marvelman, and even Lee and Kirby's Fantastic Four. And I say that as a comic fan who doesn't always enjoy Morrison's stuff - The Invisibles is an impenetrable mess, and Arkham Asylum and Kid Eterntity are just utter bollocks. But when Morrison gets it right there are few writers who can touch him.

Different strokes for different folks. Looks like we agree on many points (Kid eternity as well, I have not read the others). . Still I didn't rate Doom Patrol, it wasn't super bad but it was pretty throwaway and I definitely was not interested in committing any more money to it.

that was... intresting

can't say overly liked it... but it wasn't too bad

i got some of the anime references and a few of the video game references but all the music stuff went over my head to be honest

my main issue with it was i only liked a few of the characters so many of them just felt a bit... not there.. it's all a bit add when it comes to the side charactors

it will be intresting to compare the movie to it

Just back from the movie and thought it was all kinds of awesome. Visually great with the computer game effect and comic book inspired shots, while having some hilarious moments.

EVERY single [geek/gamer/comic fan] person I know who's seen this has loved it, utterly loved it. Can't wait to see it! :D

I went to see it today, and was looking forward to it immensely, and was disappointed.

I deliberately didn't read much about this before going to see it today - and enjoyed it. Visually interesting and a good constant flow of humour.

I'm beginning to think Michael Cera is getting a bit overexposed though.

I went today, expecting to enjoy it... And really didn't. I found it irritating. It raised a couple of smiles, but that's it. The characters were irritating, the music was irritating, the neverending quirkiness was irritating.

I may not be the target audience.

It was good but not amazing, reminded me too much of Spaced (Wright starting to look like a one trick pony), Kick Ass was better.

bought the first one but i didnt like it . . . it started boring me so i quit it !!!

<Ed: shitty spam removed. One more and you're history, sunshine>

Went to see the film last night and really enjoyed it.

I can understand the Spaced comments, but I really like that stuff so it all worked for me :D Thought it was proper fun and enjoyable, though I'd be interested to see it again to see if it stands up to successive viewings - sometimes these things can wow you with their tricks then you go back and it's all a bit... meh.

Probably helped that I fancied all three lead girls :o

Even Richard out of Richard and Judy was going on about how much he liked it on the radio. I loved it. But then I like games n shit...

I enjoyed it a lot...loved all the game references but he ended up with the wrong girl. That ruined it.

Went to see this last Wednesday with my daughter (15), I liked it, she loved it. Loads of homages in it, I thought. Looked like the monster from the forbidden planet too.

Very dissapointing, classic case of the trailer having all the best bits, too many 'nods' to computer games......kinda forgot it was supposed to be a movie, story was weak(why did the 7 ex's exist, wasn't clear?) and the characters were pretty poo IMO.

I think its just a bit of fun. It doesn't take itself seriously and its knows its silly. You can't think about it or it won't work.

I liked it, lost its way midway through the film but was back on track pretty soon. Pretty good fun to watch and some great effects and editing.

Just come back from seeing this and I bloody loved I did. There was just a moment with the fight with Gideon (G-Man) that I thought that the laughs had been killed but they came back good & proper when he had to fight himself. I don't know the comics so had nothing to go on and have been avoiding reading anything so for me the film was so much more than I expected.

I loved the numerous video game references. I immediately thought of a drinking game based on drink each time you see a reference... but then I'd actually be dead by the end of the movie. Several times over, with more booze in me than I have other fluids combined.

Popped into the Ritzy earlier for a coffee.

Had a quick look at what was on - Scott Pilgrim, with Edgar Wright on for Q&A. Snapped up one of the last tickets on the strength of the director.

It was a bit bizarre, beforehand. Never seen so many geeky twenty-somethings in one place before. If it had been twenty years earlier, the clacking of 18 sided dice would have been deafening.

As the film got started I suddenly though - uh oh, everyone here has seen it (as it turned out, most had seen it several times). But thankfully there wasn't that awful thing where people are laughing in unnatural unison.

It grew on me. I'm not a gamer but really enjoyed the game themed stuff. The "Get Ready! Let's Go" announcements and the power-ups in the final fight sequences were cool. "...just earned the power of love". Could have been awfully cheesy, but it was kept light and pacey.

Some good humour that wasn't completely purile teen-athon. The vegan police bit made me chuckle.

There was good hour's worth of Q&A with Wright afterwards. He's good to listen to - had interesting thoughts for almost any question. Someone brough Jaffa Cakes for him.

All in all, a nice evening out. Especially cos' I only popped in for coffee. :)

Sounds really cool, well done. :)

The Ritzy is ace for this kind of thing. A good mix of mainstream, art-house ish stuff, and live appearances. It's got me back into going to the cinema.

And Wright is one of my favourite directors - a real unexpected treat.

i feel it probably suffers from being squashed from six books down to one movie

also i couldn't identify with scott that well

if anything i kinda identified with the gay room-mate a bit more (although that may just be because he is the coolest)
