Scotlands Commonwealth Games opening 'costume'.

The dresses are really odd. They look like something from a 1984 home economics class. Really shapeless and plain. And what looks like charity shop handbags!

Very odd. I quite like the tartan, and separately, quite like the colour of the shirts,

The Australian one is fairly strange as well.

Right, midsummer in Glasgow, what shall we wear? Waterproofs, wooly jumpers and scarves obviously.

Apart from the knitted sweaters, that looks about right. Not brilliant, but green and gold is kinda the aussie thing in sports these days, isn't it? And I reckon a waterproof is a good idea in Glasgow whatever the time of year.

Easy! Just get Gordon Matheson to design a new uniform. He was able to become an expert in architecture at the drop of a hat, so a quick foray into crazy uniform design should be no bother for him.

Petition to get opening ceremony outfit changed:

They're kind of missing the point - it won't get changed no matter how many signatures there are. There's no money and certainly no time to get a new outfit designed and made for so many athletes in less than 13 days.

They could go down to Sports Direct and get a nicer outfit!!

Here's a picture of some of the volunteers, outside Kelvinhall arena:

The mascot creeps me out a little...

Is it me or have all the uniform/outfit designers picked colours that you'd never normally associate with Scotland?
You'd think red and white would be more associated with England looking at the flags and the English Rose symbol. Perhaps the red and white, plus the blue and white hideous ones are a clumsy attempt to make it more inclusive and apolitical?

For comparison, this was the top we had to wear at the Manchester games. It looked like thousands of volunteers walking around with heavily bruised shoulders. :D

I think it was paired with an equally hideous jacket. You still see the odd person walking round Manchester wearing this monstrosity, twelve years later, when all the sensible volunteers chucked their uniform in the bin soon after the event. :D

That was presumably designed as soon as Manchester were awarded the games in the early 90s? Would pair nicely with a shell suit.

Interesting - My boss has just been sent two tickets to the opening and told he must attend but not in his games uniform - he's a volunteer.

Ticket sales not what they cold be maybe?

This flesh toned microphones that presenters and guests are wearing are not very flattering.

Someone has a huge zit and someone looks like Pinocchio (sp?)
