Scotland vs Italy

He waved away a blatant penalty and his award of the free kick that led to Italy's second goal was wrong. It was a Scotland free kick not an Italian one.

To be fair, it was the linesman that made that extraordinary decision to award Italy a free kick from which they scored their second. He was only 3 yards away! Incredible.

I don't think the handball was blatant either, although I've seen similar ones given. Ultimately the Scots deserved a draw but not the win. Fabulous effort from them, though, and it will hopefully be rewarded with a much better draw in the World Cup qualifiers.

I know. But put those 2 with the 2 I raised and you have parity in terms of mistakes.

The fact that Italy’s 2nd goal came in the last seconds makes the error of awarding the free kick to them seem harsher. The reality is that Italy had a good goal chalked off and Scotland were awarded a goal incorrectly. Italy = just on side. Scotland = just offside.

Decisions usually even themselves out and they definitely did in yesterday’s game.

Aye, it was the linesman (or referee's assistant) who made the call. I don't think the Italians looked that remarkable but they just had a wee bit more than us. I've seen those handballs given before. I guarantee that if a Scottish player had have done the same thing the ref would have awarded a penalty.

fuck italy!

a bunch of corrupt racist fucks who get away with stuff other countries would be hauled over hot coals for.

And every tourament they play dull football.
Did you not see last years World Cup then?

As for moaning about the late free kick, if that hadn't been given it would have almost certainly finished a draw which would have put Scotland out too.

I imagine the game going like this...

Scots 0-1 italy( 4 mins)
Scots1-1Italy(44mins)
Scots1-2Italy( 75 mins)

Just a guess. I definately see the scots losing an early goal.

Well predicted. If ony you'd predicted a scotland win. :(

Well it was a good day jammed into the pub in central Glasgow... even if that first minute goal did rip the arse right out of it :D

Everyone clapped when the game finished, nice moment.

ah right so we're now bordering on homophobia as well as xenophobia and other broad generalisations.

Splendid, carry on :)

Balbi - yeah, last minute winners are fucking brilliant, even when you've been gash all afternoon and never deserved it :D

Join the queue, in a recent poll 8 out of 10 class struggle anarchists said they wanted to punch revol.

i dunno about that now but the facts remain a) that the italians get away with shite other nations would be slaughtered over and b) Pink D&G t shirts are fucking hideous.

Politics too hot for you small boy?

Once again, the ugliest, most cynical team in international football get the benefit of a last minute howler by the ref (Australia 06??)

Still, wouldnt have done for Scotland to win (MCFadden should be kicking himself for changing feet and not sliding in to score the winner when he had the chance)

To lose gloriously, with passion and a huge and justified sense of injustice. That's what being Scottish is all about;)

ffs, the ref/linesman disallowed a perfectly good Italian goal and gave one to Scotland which was offside!

Apparently these small details are irrelevant to Scots/anti-Italians.

Took My son to watch it in the Hootananny(exHobgoblin/George Canning). He's going to be 18 on Thursday so it was his first almost legal drink. We both enjoyed the atmosphere although when I started singing "We hate Jimmy Hill....." I got few blank looks.

I was pleased to see that there were even a couple of lads supporting Italy who didn't appear to get any grief. I don't think a Scotland fan would be made to feel as welcome in Bar Italia though.

Overall good atmosphere shite result but c'est la vie.

i remember during euro 96 when southgate missed that penalty the bbc news showed footage of a pub in glasgow where the punters were celebrating like scotland had won the world cup so no sympathy from me scotland

Yeah and what about all those twats on the telly going on about 19 fucking 66 every time England get through to the finals of a tournament . Hope Croatia fuck yous on Wednesday.

Fair enough about the 2 goals which were offside (or not). That was heat of the moment.

The foul down by the corner flag which gave away the 2nd goal cannot be justified in any way. That's not sour grapes because I'm fine with Scotland's performances and am looking for more of the same next time.

I accept it was a really odd decision. Linesman gave it though and I think most refs should go with their lino when it's that close to them (not that he was right, just saying I can't blame the ref for it)

I give up - which British footballer holds the European qualifying goal scoring record? I guess Healy has the UK one...

No, the record for Europe
It was a goal that had everything: imagination, execution, timing, a little whiff of magic. It won three points and meant that Healy broke Davor Suker's record to stand alone as the European Championships' all-time leading scorer in a qualifying campaign. Thirteen goals, six of them against Spain, Sweden and Denmark.

OMG, can you imagine if that had happened to England? A dodgy last minute decision (lets face it, calling a foul correct from 3 yards is a lot easier than judding offside or nor from 40) You guys would be crying for months, the papers would be full of it and we would never, ever hear the end of it.
I'm not at all anti English, having lived there for 16 years and have an English partner but the Scots playesr, media and fans have taken defeat, however cruel, with 100 times more grace than the English would have.

edited to say, 12 arrests out of 52000 - not bad really. Can you imagine th eriots if England had lost in a similar way?

So if I was to pick up a copy of the Record, the Herald, or the Sun in Scotland, they'd have moved on from the subject, and there'd be no headlines involving the words 'Anger', 'Fury', or 'Robbed'?

please give a recent example of rioting at Wembley after an England home defeat

We haven't lost at home in years (in a competitive game)... Not since the Germany game in Sep 2000 IIRC
ah, that'll be why there aren't mass riots amongst the crowd then.

whenever I've seen crowds for England matches at Wembley they've largely been the epitome of harmless nu-football shirt-and-face-paint fans.

Wasn't saying it was the reason... just pointing it out for being-a-statto's sake :)

That's OK. Just having a laugh at yet another of pagan's anti-England fan tirades :)

I hope you are not implying I'm English  ;)

Oh, they will. England fans don't seem to understand the limitations of their own side. ;) I reckon Croatia will break English hearts.

Well its not possible to riot at Wembley after a match as fans are corralled out but wasn't there mass riots in Trafalgar Sq after England's exit from Euro 96 or am I confusing that with Italia 90:confused: Remember the time that German cars were smashed in central London

I also like the way you qualified it with home match as we all know the record of England's travelling support:rolleyes:

Here you go again JTG with your classic passive aggressive behavior:eek: Somehow I don't think you are laughing mate;)

Honestly, you seem like a good guy but whenever there's any mention of Scottish fans or Tartan Army you get so incredibly chippy. Are you sure you're not Scottish:confused:

Maybe you can explain why you've decided I am 'anti - England fans'. Don't think I've ever been 'anti-England fans', not in the way you've been 'anti-Scottish'. It would be fair to say I'm not keen on racist, violent, mysogenistic England fans. Nor do I like the English red top media, nor many English football pundits. You on the other hand seem to really dislike Scotland fans cos they wear 'See you Jimmy' hats and like a drink:rolleyes:
