Score predictor England vs. Spain

England Banter

"The rumour floating around at the mo is that Lampard is being a right tit about Barton being in the squad, won't talk to him, pass to him, all that stuff, and just got up to move to another table at breakfast when Barton sat at the same one.

Apparently as soon as he stood up and moved, Barton called after him "Don't worry, I wasn't going to nick your breakfast you fat prick" and Lampard threw a hissy fit and stormed out."

I doubt it's true – Lampard may be many things but surely he'd put his petty problems with Barton aside for the good of the squad etc. If it is true, though, the daft sod should be bounced out of the side and told not to bother coming back until he's grown up a bit. Twunt.

Not in the least arrogant, smug or possessing moobs.

Just watched the half time chat does it bother anyone else that they seem to think the main thing we need to do is up the tempo and get the tackles in? Is that really all we're about?

I have a question Google can't answer.

When was the first televised, floodlight, friendly international?

Any takers? It is a dull match afterall.

The first ever floodlit football match took place at Bramall Lane on 14 October 1878 in front of an attendance on 20,000

New knowledge. Thank you :)

We have gone backwards in a big way since Sven. People will actually remember his years with relativel fondness IMO. I reckon at the last world cup Mclaren was more or less already in charge. At world cup 2002 and euro 2004 we did respectably well.

From the BBC Interweb commentary

"2135: Just the high five as Frank Lampard (published author) makes way for Joey Barton (literary critic) who is on for his England debut."

:D

Yeah, at least under Sven we were hard to beat. Still no Rooney, Owen (et al) not sure how much we can read into this.

No passion, no creativity, no grit, 2 shots on target, 15 odd players who seem to lack interest in playing for their country and 1 man in charge who seems to lack any ideas in how to take the team forward.

It all adds up to another typical England performance of late.

:( :( :(

uaual shit England from the usual shit overpaid players.. Dyer sure lived up to his name. Crouch is an average option as a substitute. Lampard, well Barton had it right when he said "I played shit read my book.." Still boys another week another £70k plus in the bank. gods job is a good 'en.

Awful.

Has any other England manager been sacked without actually reaching a major tournament? If not, its on the cards because he has made what was a gifted but unlucky team under Eriksson into a rubbish one - even against a Spain team playing at somewhere around 50% pace.

two things came out of that game for me:

1) there were a shitload of england players out injured. what does that say?*

2) peter crouch played for ninety minutes

*number of fixtures? the training procedures of the clubs our players play for?

Only England player to impress me was Wright-Philips. Frankly though how much was the players' fault as opposed to the manager. A lot of England's play was scrappy. A lot of the 1st half it seemed to be whack it out to W-P cos he's the only one who seems to know what he's supposed to be doing,

hmm actually my hatred of England is leading me to flatter Spain, afterall we beat them 3-2 so England might just have a chance.

You forget that 'we' [Northern Ireland] also beat England last year.

And 'we' weren't playing Spain in a friendly.

I did feel for Peter Crouch, though I rarely rate him. Many an unfair decision.

he got a lot of unfair decisions against him but it still remains that he doesn't know what to do with his height

Why did the BBC have his dad as one of their studio guests? I'm tired of hearing him griping about how all poor Sean's problems are caused by Chelsea. He made some stupid mistakes tonight IMO - but of course they weren't mentioned.
And why did McClaren start with someone like SWP anyway, who wasn't playing regularly for his club? I was a lot more impressed by Woodgate - the result would have been much worse without him and Ferdinand, who both did really well.

What, the media made a mistake in giving us a new England manager

The media made a mistake in making the people of England think they needed one - the English made the mistake of believing anything they said.

is that the woodgate that got completely skinned by the spaniard for their goal?

Can't be arsed to catch up with this thread properly after catching just this page 3 .... :(

I presume we lost, then?

Unambiguous brief summary mentioning the actual score (or consisting ony of that, if yer pissed!). Please ...

I'm a tad drunk (was at footy-deprived but beer-rich Battersea Beer Festival).

So I can take bad news -- wouldn't be unexpected! at England ....
