Scooter Riders = Lazy Cowardly Bastards

I'd always had visions of you riding an old WWII bimmer with a chair and machine-gun mount :p

I wish, I could afford a vintage outfit like that.
My solo is a Yamaha Radian 600, it is stupidly quick to 60mph but runs out of steam after that.
We have three other bikes, a Honda 650 DOHC NightHawk, old but still runs well.
A Honda CX500 Custom(ish) I bolted the sidecar from a 350 Jawa onto it.
(We only use it locally now out of respect for it's age).
A BMW K75S which I bolted a rebuilt from scrap Squire ST1 chair on.

Eclectic, but quite a high prevalence of rice grinders there, given some of your past disparaging comments about crotch rockets and the like :p

C'mon, admit it !! You have a set of multicoloured Dainese leathers stashed away somewhere, alongside a tricked out R1 with a dream machine custom paint-job and a workbench full of anodised aluminium alloy fittings ready for spring :)

You in NABD BTW ? I assume you are, you seem to be serious about bikes as well as disability.

I agree. Scooters are so shite. Bikes are  and so are motorbikes. Scooters are just nasty, buzzy little things. Yes, they ARE lazy - if you can be arsed to learn how to ride a proper motorbike, it's SO, so much better.

And look at the mod/rocker thing.

Mods are wimps in suits. Bikers, and rockers, are

The lazy bit I can understand - too lazy to learn to use a geared motorbike and too lazy to pedal.

But chicken? Riding a scooter (especially in adverse conditions) is one of the hairiest things I've ever done. Riding a pushbike - at a fraction of the speed, on the road but totally separate to the action - is a breeze in comparison.

Me, but not for those reasons. Because the majority drive like cunts over here - they don't even need a CBT - doing 45 up the cycle lanes and jumping lights all over the show.

Only those who got their driving license before 2001 (I think it is) can ride a scooter, which excludes anyone under the age of 25. And IIRC they can only use 50ccs which have been restricted to 30mph.

I sometimes use a cycle lane in stopped traffic to jump to the front of the queue, if it's empty and if there are cars positioned such that they're blocking the passage on the main part of the road. And I'll do so at snails pace - aware that a passenger of a car may jump out without looking etc.

Never jump the lights though. Actually I tell a lie - if it goes to amber as I'm approaching at road speed I'll accelerate rather than slow down most of the time, particularly if it's wet. And some of the time as I pass through just as it's changed to red - reason being that it's safer for me to do so then come to an abrupt start, particularly in the wet.

I am in NABD, and given I am a firm believer in the adage:-matching leathers do not turn a wanker into a biker I don't have any such leathers.
I would not have an R1 as a present due the shitting frog riding position and my short legs.

The few times I had a go on a Vespa or Lambretta back when "mod" went through it's first revival I always noticed the stability difference between the scooters and the Honda CB250N "Super Dream" I had at the time.
The instability is the good thing about those scooters in traffic - you can flick em around like you just can't with a more stable bike

Euuucccchhhhh Super Dreams. I passed my test on one of those. Borrowed my mate's cos it was nice and shiny as I owned a thumping old BSA C15 at the time and we figured it'd do my image with the tester some good

As long as they don't scoot in the cycle lane I don't have a problem with them.
Seems to be cheapening the value of the true cyclist by being able to use the cycle lane and the advantages of zipping past traffic contained therein.

Scooters are a mode of transport .Motorcycles can be a life style .Personally I perfer my 2 wheels to be unpowered having poor coordination and little sense of fear think motorcyling is not for me :) .

I love my scooter..

I didn't realise anyone had anything against me because I ride a scooter. That's pretty pathetic if you ask me!

Real bikers don't have anything against you. You have the same level of risk on the road as anyone else on a motorised two wheeler.

But would you pedal 15 miles on dual carriageways and national speed limit roads? It takes me 45 minutes to get to work as it is, on a scooter. On a bike, it would be ridiculous! I leave the house at 7.10am as it is!

Not really. I used to work in town which is 2 miles from where I live. I still went on my scooter. After all, I had paid for it, plus insurance, road tax etc.

Walking took about half an hour, longer when I wore smart work clothes, and was along a horrible main road clogged up with traffic.

Bus cost £1.40 and always got stuck in traffic.

How is going on a scooter lazier than going in a car?

I don't have anything against them but I can't help thinking they're lazy when I'm pedalling away :)

When I nonchalantly pass people on a pushbike huffing and puffing and sweating away, I think they're cheap bastards.

Orang Utan said:
Nope - but I think scooter riders who commute just 3 miles are lazy bastards :p

I'll use my scooter for a 1km round trip - it's there, paid for, journey probably cost about 5p in petrol - I figure I may as well. The time and effort I save can be better spent elsewhere.

You wont have met the local mods where I grew up then!

We ensured that we got on very well with those guys as some of them were amongst the biggest nutters in the area. :D

It was the little wannabee nyaffs you had to watch out for - the guys who were serious about it were just fine. :)

:D @ bigmac....

I love this thread...

Without scooters, people would never get the craving for a big bike...

Best post on here was

Bicycles are a gateway drug.
100% agreed on that one.... after 5 bmx's, a mountain bike, 50 scooter, 125 scooter, 600 bike and 900 bike in 4 years I now realise I've got a problem.... ;)

Now I want a CBR1300 for my 25th Birthday...

Ah, ok :) I'm not talking from experience here - I just like the biker look better.

I think it looks a bit drippy to take too much pride in your appearance. :D
