Say something nice about Americans

I have nothing against American people or, as a country America. Like any society it has it's problems and those problems reflect and are reflected in it's citizens. The thing is that as the worlds largest imperial power and the worlds largest exporter of media, at least English language then it's problems just become glaringly obvious to the rest of the world.
Cheese cake is very nice as well.

I like their straightupness.

The British tend to be totally negative, meaning that even someone who doesn't mind or even likes you can give the impression of being negative against you.

The Canadians tend to be the other extreme and all that's awesome and amazing and stuff, but you know it's fake.

The Aussies are like us only darker somehow

But the Americans tend to be more straight up - if they like you, they'll make it clear. If they don't, they won't.

A lot of us here (me included) have been somewhat critical of the denizens of the land of the Stars and Stripes on here recently, particularly in the healthcare thread. Nevertheless, IMO a country which can produce Creedence Clearwater Revival and Bugs Bunny can't be all bad. :)

I'm starting this thread in the hope that people will share some positive comments about America and Americans. Anyone like to start?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

abraham lincoln

Banning slavery wasn't his primary concern, h'd have been quite happy to permit it if he felt he could. Said it himself.

Americans aren't all twats. There must be millions of cool ones that are cool despite being American.

I think part of the issue, is that the definition of what is an American has been captured by right-wing christian nationalist ignorant militarist cunts that think the owning of a 4X4 is a national duty, and that forms of collective social responsability is a worse idea than raping and then eating babies- WITH LENTILS!!!! .

The US is a big place, and can't you get into Canada/Mexico with an official ID card, a little like Europeans can in the EU?

Not quite the same as us not having a passport.

music. starting with gospel via swamp blues and hill billy to c&w, soul, motown, funk, r'n'b, garage punk, psychedelia, blues rock, the canion scene (byrds, csn, neil young etc), nyc stuff like ramones and the dolls, then 9ts stuff like nirvan etc. all good music, and america deserves credit for it. i actively dislike american politics, tv, hollywood, burgers and imperialism though.

they are the most hospitable people in the world
they are open, friendly, warm and good-humoured

I doubt that. Have you met every culture in the world? Probably not, so you speak in ignorance and such "in the whole world" sayings are ultimately meaningless. Maybe you found them all open friendly and good-humoured, but you're a certain type of person with a certain accent. All that can really be said is that you got on with the ones you met.
