Erm wear your hair up and out of the way or you could end up with playdoh in it.

Or nits.

Congratulations & good luck. :) Sorry to be such a miserable c**t & mention nits. Going on my teacher friends' expeerience they are a bit of an occupational hazard of working with sprogs.......

I never got nits and worked with kids for over 10 yrs. I did keep my hair up alot though mainly because I worked with special needs for alot of the time and some were a little violent now n then.

I have a great little essential oil recipe for prevention if anyone wants it. Used it myself and now use it on my 6yr old if I get 'that' letter home telling me there are nits at the school.

Congratulations! I can't offer you helpful child advice, as they scare and confuse me, but good luck anyway!

That was me posting, by the way

or nits - definately wear your hair up!

congrats SZC, good luck - I've helped out at play groups and at school, it is good fun, though I've not done it as a full time job.

try and be fair to all of them, even the ones you don't like - there will be ones you dislike, and of course you'll have your favourites, but just try and keep things as even as possible.

My back hurts :D

It was alright, the kids were fine (they're funny :D) but the staff were a bit crap......they didn't let me know what was going on, when to take lunch, where to go for it, what I shouldn't do etc......

My mate who works at a different branch (which is closer to me) says that her place is a lot more relaxed, she too felt uncomfortable at where I worked today.

By 6pm I said 'Look, I have to go' (how long were they planning to keep me there  ) and I had to ask around to find out what was gonna happen next ! I was told I'd be contacted soon..

Anyway, I'm hoping to go work at the other place which is closer and sounds better. :)

You're working with small children???!

Sorry :o - got too excited at being (not very) amusing and meant to finish by saying that's brilliant and congratulations!

I know! :D

The highlight of today was letting two 2 yr olds and a 3 yr old brush/accessorise my hair.....I had about 7 pastel plastic hairclips dangling from my hair, backcombed sections and a hair elastic placed on the top of my head :D

Kept them quiet though...

:D Hair. All small children love it!

Glad to hear they're letting the kids touch you. One of my friends worked with little kids a while ago and was told that she was not allowed any physical contact with the kids whatsoever - very sad IMO :(

BTW, I reckon all new jobs are a bit vile and unwelcoming the first day - hope you're not taking it personally SZC

SZC - Supernanny is on 9pm/Wednesday/Channel 4

Incidentally, I think Little Angels which is on BBC3 or 4 every evening at 8pm pretty much is better

Will stop posting on this thread now and proferring advice :)

congratulations SZC, really cool news!

I haven't done much with kids, but I do some teaching and I think it's really important to come over as being very outgoing and positive most of the time, as I think kids really pick up on enthusiasm.

(Winterinmoscow goes to brew strong coffee to make an effort to appear lively later!)

Congrats -I reckon you will really enjoy it, I found working with little kids really brought out the creative side in me....

Beware of nits!!!! Your bound to get em.................. :D

My head was itching all last night

Might just be my dodgy scalp problem flaring up though...

Remember small children are still human.

Oh don't worry I do. I know this sounds like a dickheadish thing to say but I reckon my way of talking to them normally and explaining why you shouldn't do this/what happens etc and only raising my voice when they are really misbehaving is better than shouting at them most and being a bit sarky (which is what I saw a lot of yesterday - not saying that the staff are shit btw).....

Good luck with the little people SZC! Hope they don't wear you out too much in your first week.

And let us know how it's going - I think you might end up with some good stories :D

Thanks.

It's gonna be a bit hard going back to work after so long but once I get into the routine I'll be ok. I'm gonna ask to work in the branch closer to my house, with my mate Emily (where it is apparently much more relaxed ;) )

Little kids can say the funniest stuff, I sure will be posting it up :D

congrats SZC!

kids are great - I have nothing but admiration for the staff at my little nipper's nursery
