It was good, not Partridge good, but good. Its better than most of the other crap out there but I can't see it becomming a classic.

Too early to say that really, like Partridge it's character-led and it'll take a while to get to know him. Looked promising, we'll have to see how it turns out.

Was Armando Ianucci involved at all?

i dont think so, dont quote me tho.

i though it was pretty pretty pretty good, some quality moments, some poor bits.

"he looks like the pedophile from chitty chitty bang bang..."

when he holds that t-shirt up that says 'fuck off'

there was one bit that really had me laughing, cant remember which bit it was tho

I quite enjoyed it. Good to see Morwenna Banks... hadn't seen her in anything since Absolutely.

There are some who believe Ricky Gervais is a comic genius, but Coogan really blows him out of the water. Gervais can only play one wanker – Coogan can play a wide variety of wankers

Thought it was very promising – but Coogan's characters outside of Partridge tend to be rather under-appreicated IMHO. Tony Ferrino was hilarious and so was the six-part Coogan's Run thing he did a few years ago.

So is anyone going to say if it's being repeated? :(

john x

Just did a quick search at radiotimes.com and the only other entry they have for it is next Monday (26th) at 10pm, so I guess not.

It's a programme on your tellybox, of course it will be repeated. Why would anyone here know more than, say the BBC website?

couldn't agree more - Gervais is something of a one-trick pony
- you couldn't slip a rizla between Brent and Gervais.

In that case, maybe I should have written: Coogan plays a variety of wankers. Gervais just plays himself.

Not sure. I thought it was the Jills assistant in the hairdressers in 'Nighty Night'.

Yeah, I thought it was Mfanwy too, but wasn't 100% sure. Turns out it's not - it's Ruth Jones.
Err, Ruth Jones is Myfanwy from Little Britain.
She's was also in Nighty Night as well, so you're both right :)
She is also got a pretty sexy vibe going on imho.

I didn't laugh until he shot the animal rights protester. That kind of won me over.

I liked the way it was quite possibly the oldest joke in the world but still made it funny. Didn't see it coming because I forgot about the pistol. Class. The rest of it was a bit average but will give it a chance.

Yeah I liked it.

Best bit was the end and that won me over. Saxondale is still very Alan Partridge but he's not quite as sad. He has a bit more balls.

The mercy killing was funny too.

I thought it was excellent - went off like Krakatoa!:D

If you recorded it try watching it again - it made me laugh just as much, if not more, second time round!

Coogan's accent wasn't particularly constant. Brum/soft Scouse-ish drifting between the two?
I thought it was - not Brummy or Scouse though - dunno where you got that from - sounded like a soft Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire accent to me, with a hint of Sheffield.

Excellent new comedy!

Is he? I know he likes sex and fast cars, but I've not heard any rotten stuff about him. He's a big leftie and would happily give 50% to the tax man. Anyway, whatever, he's funny and I liked the new show.

"There's one in there that looks like Magz...but, errr...it's not her".

Anyone else notice the Don't Ask Me theme?

Okay, maybe I think that blokes that cheat on their wife with prostitutes and snort loads of coke are knobs then.

Good for him being a leftie, he's still a knob to women.

What does it matter if he's funny?

I thought it was excellent (only saw it two days ago), even funnier second time around.

He is my dad though (without the drug problem), scary.

My favourite bit was the long envious hate filled stare at the DJ roadie when he realised he was dealing with the modern version of the rock band. Class.

I saw the last 10 minutes of this by chance. Will track it down and watch it again properly.

Coogan and Gervais have quite a similar comedic style. They both utilise a trailed off silence in a similar way to let the audience pick up the joke. Gervais seems to have a person silently dumbstruck by something/someone and left hanging there and Coogan has a tense silence where two characters hold the silence together.

This may sound like bawls - but it's true!
