Saxondale 2nd series

I wasn't all that imrpessed by the first series, but I thought that last night's episode was an improvement. It's no masterpiece (unlike I'm Alan Partridge) but there were a few laugh-out-loud moments, something that is lacking in too many sit-coms these days.

Ooo it's was so cringey and wrong!

The financial advisor porsche and hookers chappy in the Anger Management class at the beginning was in Garth Merenghi's Darkplace. I always wonder how he gets along if that's his real voice :D

Michael is very handsome :p

I missed the first series entirely. The first episode was okay, didn't think so much about last weeks..

I missed the first episode, but enjoyed the second.

How is it a twist on Partridge - they're 2 completely different characters?

Yes.. but they're both got abit of a " git " element haven't they.

I also missed the first episode, and couldn't find it on replay (or whatever it's called), did enjoy the second a lot though. And I think I actually enjoy it more than the Partridge stuff. Probably cos I see a lot more of myself in Saxondale. :o

Partridge and Saxondale have a lot of similarities, but whereas Partridge is a fundamentally hollow and soulless wreck of a human being, Saxondale is a decent enough bloke.

There's too much 'mugging' - he needs to calm down a bit. I find it really gets in the way and otherwise I'd really enjoy it.

If you can't watch it on Replay, I watched the first episode on youtube last night, it was in three parts but otherwise fine.

that's the character. That's what he does; I like the depth of effort involved. I hope the series improves because season 1 was superb. Though I'm glad we see more of Vicky, eh babes?

No, that's what the actor does to try to convey the character. It's too much and it gets in the way. It's unrealistic.

What do you mean by 'mugging'?
Pulling faces. All that smacking of lips and rolling his eyes after everything he says. It's like watching a pantomime dame. It's a shame becasue otherwise I really like it. He just needs to tone it down a bit.

Yeah, I think those group therapy scenes are always really hilarious. Struggling to contain his anger issues in the face of what he sees as idiotic provocation. :D

I hope Matt Berry's going to be in a few more episodes. He does 'smug' like no other.

Wow I never realised he was so popular, no wonder I don't see him so much these days. I will never forget him doing a wank all over this girls bed to avenge a friend. What a gent.

I know, but that's how the character is supposed to be.

He's not real you know :D

The actor creates the character. He's overacting that particular aspect of the character.

The actor Todd Rivers is a genius.

"I've stood in Dean's front room and watched him make a lotta love"

i don't get how you can't see it's intentional. If you don't dig it then fine, but that is how the character is intended to be. Those mannerism are supposed to be somewhat cringeworthy. It's why he's such a great character.

And they are all real. In my head.

But if he's not real then what is the character if not the 'overacting' of it? Are you saying that the real character would not act in such a way?

But it's unrealistic. I've never met anyone who mugs like that irl and I've met a fair few ex roadies :D

I'm saying that no-one in real life pulls that many faces all the time unless they have tourettes.

But it's not real life. It's a character in a tv show. And a comedy tv show at that. Have you watched the League of Gentlemen? What do you think of their overacting?

Is that someone he plays? I keep meaning to look out for him.

Their characters aren't supposed to be realistic though  Saxondale is supposed to be based on a certain type of real life person so giving him a character trait that is totally and unrealistically over the top doesn't work. It's distracting.
