Saw III

omlette said:
the twist at the end of the first Saw was the most tedious, bolted-on, we-MUST-have-a-twist-at-the-end twist I've ever seen in a film. :(

I dunno if it was bolted on, but it was certainly lame and ill-conceived

They've got a good PR... I hadn't heard of this until someone came on the radio news this morning talking about how people were fainting in the cinema cause the film was so shocking...
i know that the story is PR-spread, but a film publicist would have to be stupid not to push a story like that.

yeah but people have been passing out and running screaming from the cinema this time round according to the news. Then again if I'd made a horror movie I'd pay some people to do that to get the free publicity so unless someone has actually died watching I'm not going to hold my breath. :)
I can pretty much guarantee that nobody has been paid to pass out in the cinemas.

Well i liked the first one.

I liked the second one too, although to a lesser extent.

Having watched the third one the other night, i CAN say it's the most fucked up and brutal out of the three, and was a thoroughly enjoyable watch (note: i love these kind of 'trashy' horror film). Didn't think that much of the story/twists, but you can't say no to a bit a ultraviolence ;)

the first one was a dreadful piece of shit

Talking about films that you think are shit, i hope you're over the moon to know that 28 Weeks Later is due out next may :p :D

There was a good interview with an ambulance bod about this on PM on Radio 4. When Eddie Mair asked whetherhe thought it was a publicity stunt the ambulance guy pointed out that Stevenage seemed an unlikely venue for that sort of thing......

oh you're JOKING? :(

is the main guy from 28 Days Later some sort of Van Damme-esque vigilante zombie slaying superhero?

As far as i know none of the original cast are in it, and it's being directed by some spanish chap.

Plus apparently it's about the american army saving the UK and re-establishing society 6 months after the virus  (yes, even from me!).

Sounds like it's going to be awful, but no doubt i'll still end up seeing it :o

(It does have Robert Carlyle in though!)

Well, in that case, it will definitely have a happy ending.

Like when the American army "saved" Iraq and re-established society.

Giles..

Does sound like an awful idea for a sequel, however the fella directing it, one Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, also directed the rather excellent Intacto, so I remain hopeful...

This sounds like it could well be the best film ever.
sounds intrestingly political ...

Seven months after the rage virus has annihilated the British isles, the US army declares that the war against infection has been won, and that the reconstruction of the country can begin. In the first wave of returning refugees, a family is reunited--but one of them unwillingly carries a terrible secret. The virus is not yet dead, and this time, it is more dangerous than ever

Saw Saw 3 last nite. Twas shit. Gory but not scary in the least and the plot was tired and predictable were they even trying? I mean the twist in the second film wasn't that obvious. I knew the result of the twist just didnt know how they would pull it off.(SPOILER COMING UP) Only thing I didnt see coming in this one was them knocking of that copper in the first half hour.

Thought saw was okay. Thought saw 2 was okay. Just trying to decide whether to give the 1:30 Saw 3 showing a go.

I'm rubbish with 'twist' films because I always see them coming and ruin it for myself. The films shouldn't advertise that they have a twist then I wouldn't think about it.

Fuck off the Village

Twists are shit if they are so obvious a brain dead 2 year old could guess what it is .

The village is a perfect example , in fact so is 6th sense and unbreakable as well .

Just watched it...hmmmmm it was okay, not very challanging...I guess a bit more of the same. Could see the plot twist from a mile off...meh.

OK, guess the twist.

You gets what ya pay for with Saw 3, the first one had a touch of low-budget, inventive brilliance to it (though the plot is horribly messy).

The sequels are now just part of a big-money spinning franchise and will follow the same formula over and over again til it's been flogged to it's bloody, gory death.

Saw 4 next Halloween? Yep, it's already in the works... *sigh*

I liked the first two, and while the third one was decent [thought stuff from the first two that we didn't see was a good touch] it just didn't have the extra something I can't quite place. SPOILER!! Seeing someone having their brain drilled into and someone rotated to death is harsh but didn't make me squirm as much as it should? And I felt was more predictable in how it played out.

I hope that you didn't go thinking it might be challenging

...I guess not...but y'know, with the press and stuff I thought it may well have been squirmy and grim and challanging in that way...but it wasn't...

The first Saw is without doubt the most appaling piece of 'film making' I have ever had the misfortune to lay my eyes on. Not evenly remotely frightening, original or even interesting....and the acting is abysmal. Infact it was so poor (Cary Ewles how the feck is he getting paid!!!!! ) that I can honestly say Ive never laughed so hard at a movie that isnt intended to make you laugh.
