Question Saving up for a new gaming PC; tips/recommendations?

Speak to the IT department at work, if you have one: you may be able to get a staff discount on the PC and monitors. Just check that the PC can take and has the PSU for a full-length GPU.

If you're building one yourself, assuming you game on a standard HD monitor, a Geforce GTX 970 GPU, 450W PSU, i5 CPU, and 8 GB should see you sorted. Upgrade the last two to i7 and 16 GB as funds permit, preferring RAM over CPU. You should be able to transfer your Windows license.

Don't skimp on the PSU - get a good brand, one that's modular, and check the reviews. A bad PSU can really ruin your day.

Do consider getting two monitors: a portrait-mode monitor is ace for reading Urban.

Do consider ergonomics - form factor (ITXX, mATX, ATX), noise, looks, etc. I'm a big fan of small is beautiful and the new Cougar QBX case has caught my eye. It appears that they use the Coolermaster Gemini M4 CPU cooler, which also looks very nice. For an ITX case like that one, it's often better to get a SFX form factor PSU.

For PSU I went with the evga gs supernova, 550w, gold efficiency, modular, low noise (except if it's at full load), and rated as tier 1 on Tom's Hardware list of PSUs, and just over 50 quid.
