I've had fantastic advice from DASL in it's various incarnations over the last 10 years or so, and stopping their funding will shaft just about any idsabled or long-term sick person who needs help with benefits forms etc, to name but one group who;ll be affected.
What makes me vomit is that if, over the last few years, our councilors hadn't awarded themselves such sumptuous allowances (what happened to expenses and a sandwich, lads and lasses?) there'd be a good few hundred thousand more in the Lambeth kitty. But hey, why give a fuck about crips? Half of us can't even get to the surgeries, so we obviously don't exist.
I agree DASL are doing a great job. They helped me when I moved three years ago; and, more recently with the intricacies of Direct Payments. I phone them often; and, generally get a speedy response to a query.
If, as it seems Lambeth is planning a ‘Final Solution’ for its irksome high maintenance disabled population; then, there will be no need for voluntary sector advice agencies such as DASL:
“When Lambeth took care away from Substantial care cases,
There was indifference;
They had no Substantial care needs
When Lambeth hiked-up care charges out of reach,
No voice was raised;
They had no care needs
When Remploy closed down the factories,
Shoulders were shrugged;
They worked elsewhere
When Lambeth withdrew voluntary sector funding,
Nobody cared;
They were self-sufficient
Then THEY looked to them,
The indifferent, silent, shoulder shrugging and care-free;
Who screamed: “Only individuals and families exist!
Look elsewhere for Society!””
