I've never been a TT regular, just if I was having a dry spell when single and buying ridiculously overpriced drinks (as opposed to merely stupidly overpriced drinks) looking for loose women in Shoreditch and Clerkenwell wasn't working.

Now, this field trip...

I like cheesy clubs. Despite the fact that everyone get's dressed up to the nines.. there's much less of the 'look at how clever/beautiful/kooky/interesting I am' bollocks.

People are more likely to say 'look at how drunk I am.. I can get my leg behind my neck and not spill my pint...'

:)

Yes. Field trip. Notebooks. Anoraks and tank tops. It HAS to be done... we could pretend to be a convention of geeks from MIT. :)

This is always how it starts. With chin stroking and pondering. Soon enough you will be Tiger Tiger regulars.

Is there a name for those, like cat food? ;)

The biggest problem with Tiger Tiger is not that its over priced or what goes on in there. I had a lunch there not long after it opened and it was lovely. Dunno about now.

It the fact that nobody who goes there lives in London. Generally people who don't live in London see it as a classy place to go out. How many people who live in London, go to the west end at all?

What about Costa Dorada, the flamenco club opposite Bradley's Spanish Bar on Hanway St? Yes it's tacky but it would be infinitely preferable to a night at Tiger Tiger. I went once, never again... (Tiger Tiger I mean - just an overpriced cattle market at the end of the day)

Anyway, details of tacky but strangely fun Costa Dorada here: http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/restaurants/restaurant-1038.php

Thanks for the suggestions but I don't think any of them are going to please everyone (Costa Dorada is a good suggestion actually be I went there with the same people last year).

It might just be easier to grin-and-bear Tiger Tiger than be responsible for suggesting something else which everyone hates. :(

I was going to suggest Charlie Wrights, sort of hoxton way... But by the sounds of it you'd be hated for the choice :(

Oh no, you CAN'T go to Tiger Tiger - it's just wrong

OK, How about cocktails at Bloomsbury Bowling http://www.bloomsburybowling.com/

Or what about Club Aloha every Saturday night at South London Pacific
http://www.southlondonpacific.com/

Or Guilty Pleasures on 22nd Dec
http://www.guiltypleasures.co.uk/site/dates/?month=12&year=2007

C'mon, ANYTHING but Tiger Tiger! ;)

brix, those suggestions are actually pretty good :D

I've just suggested Bloomsbury Lanes, SLP and Rollerdisco to the Tiger Tiger fans, I'll see what response I get.

In their defense they are mostly from outside London so have a bit of a provincial view of what passes for an entertaining night out.

Indeed, I think that a field trip and note-taking would be quite useful to a number of folks on here to see what lies outside the Urban bubble...

I've frequently been in places about half as bad as this Tiger Tiger place sounds, and they were quite horrendous enough thankyou!

I'll stay in my 'narrow minded' old school proper-beer pub zone ta.

Pubs = Ace
Bars = Shit

Wise words from the Urban knowledge! :D

is that the one where they do thai food on their lunch meal?

my cokehead box during the .com bubble use to get us wrecked there on fridays. had numerous fights outside that place...christ, city boys are utter thugs.

another 'thumbs up' for the bloomsbury bowling thing. Its ace. Cheap white russians, half cut bowling, and a sound track of rock and roll, northern soul, garage punk, and psych. Well it was when I went there last.

Bowling and cheap white russians - a Big Lebowski themed bar? What?!?! How did I not hear of this?!?!?

Because you were too busy looking for loose women in Shoreditch and Clerkenwell? :p

its aces.. allthough its quite easy to injure yourself when a bit pissed and hefting bowling balls around...

if you are a clerkenwell/shoredich person, then its just up the road too...

So what happened Beeboo? Did you persuade them to do something/go somewhere less awful than Tiger Tiger?

Well I know you've all been waiting anxiously for further news :D

I've managed to talk them into going to Bloomsbury Lanes for a bit of early evening bowling and White Russian action, with plans for later being up for negotiation on the night. There's talk of DJs and live bands on at the Lanes so I'm hoping it'll be lively enough to keep everyone's interest through the evening but the spectre of moving to Tiger Tiger later in the evening is still lingering...

Why not just go and try to like it...? If you don't then make your excuses and leave early. And if you really don't want to go then mention you have something on that evening.

Since when did Xmas Party's become compulsory...? I've avoided Xmas Partys when they sound like a shite venue or I've had a better offer... :D
