Saudi woman tweeted a photo of herself without a hijab. Police arrest her

Do we really have any right to say what they do to their women?

Interesting point, notably in respect of 'the gaze' being adopted and projected in regard to the subject. Still, it makes some folks feel better about themselves and their alleged politics.

I don't think anyone on this thread is jumping up and down about this because it's about muslims.

I think it's more about the fact that this woman has been arrested and, like many others, is being persecuted/oppressed by the one of the most repressive states in the world today (and a state with which the British state maintains active and mutually supportive relations).

It's certainly true that some hijab-wearing women get attacked in Britain by racist individuals, but women in Britain, muslim or otherwise, are not persecuted and oppressed directly by the state to the extent that Saudi women are.

Please dont put words into my mouth.

No one suggested that British women are in the same situation as Saudi women. That would be very silly and it would be a disservice to the women suffering under the Saudi regime.

Another poster brought up British hijabis and I was responding to that.

How would you explain women who might engage, and fully accept, this 'situation' in Saudi Arabia?

Meaning you mate. You are not allowed to point out that abuse happens here because if you do you are accepting of what happens there. WTAF? Are we supposed to pretend we don't understand this manipulative, bullshit, objectifying code? Put up and shut up. Err no.

No idea how any of what I said is in acceptance or support of what's happening over there. Clearly the opposite.

That's not even funny. Cheap shots at the expense of women. Well done.

I don't think it's particularly funny either, and frankly I was a bit taken aback by your need to qualify the behaviour of a state that still executes women for the 'crime' of witchcraft.

Please explain where and how I have done that?

Why is your response to a story about the collusion between the British state and the Saudi state in reference to a story about a state attack on a woman for showing her hair an attempt to deflect from that act of persecution of a Saudi woman?

Nope. It is possible to be concerned about two things at once. Its not an either or although it is treated as such by some ppl who don't give a shit about what happens to muslim women here. For example, I didn't see a thread about the woman who got attacked in the story I linked to.

Also you're going to have to quote me rather continue to peddle your incorrect assumptions. Either that or admit that you are wrong and have jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Good thing that you are here to very heavily imply that anyone who is concerned about the original story doesn't care 'about what happens to muslim women here'.

Just a question: are you able to converse with people, without every word coming from your mouth dripping with sarcasm and condescension?

You can't quote me because I haven't said the things you are accusing me of

The phrasing is confusing though, clearer like this:

There are women who engage and fully accept this situation in Saudi Arabia, how do you explain that?

Thanks Tom. That makes more sense. Although I'm not sure why I'm being asked this. Or why this dude is being so condescending.

It isn't a difficult question, nor was it intended to be.

It's not up to me to 'explain' those women. I'd rather read what Saudi women have to say than speak for them. Granted the voices you more likely to hear are critical ones but in some cases even those women began as accepting the status quo such as Souad al Shammary.
