Mine gets used in fits and starts. It'll be various toasties evry day for a week or so, and then the novelty wears off and if goes back to gather dust for a couple of months until the cycle is repeated.

So yeah, get one!

I concurr

They're not that hard to clean you lazy bastards - bit of kitchen roll job done while it's still hot.

Salt is good for cleaning whle it's hot too.

we're so gadget free, we don't even have a toaster.

I used to have a breville and it was great - but eventually the non-stick stuff wore out and all the fillings would leak out :(

Well my sandwich toaster ended up on a shelf gathering dust until I donated it to student blueslet, the Foreman grill however has many other uses, so is worth taking up the space on the worktop IMO. I love toasties, but the whole effort inc cleaning meant I just didn't bother after the initial novelty - Foreman grill is the way to go :)
Seconded (or fithed by now). We have a tiny kitchen but a huge foreman. It's great. :) I even grill courgettes and stuff to put in salads.

We had a sandwich machine (donated by a friend who kept the toaster and kettle it came with) but the handle/closing mechanism broke pretty quick.

Hot pan and an inside out sandwich (filling but no butter on the inside, buttered on the outside) is all you need.
Stick the sandwich into the preheated pan for a minute or two until crisp and golden, then turn and do the other side.
Perfect.*

*especially with some decent ham, a good slice of gruyere and a turn or three of black pepper <drools>

I have a square cast iron ridged grill pan and a cast iron panini press, its a 'lid' the same size as the grill pan, ridged with a handle, you put it on top of what your cooking and it squashes it down. It means I can use it on the gas cooker and on the wood burning stove. Its kind of an analogue version of the George Forman grill.

i made a cheesey sandwhich using sheo's method. i burnt 1 side a bit, so next time i shall use a lower heat. it was very yummy though

(value bread, value butter and value cheese:D but come payday it will be posh cheddar, red onion, chargrilled peppers and salt/pepper *drool*

we got a breville years ago, used it for a while, haven't used it in years now:o must get it out...

i have made another 2 :) the first is a little underdone, toasty but not brilliantly melted. the other nivarna in toastie form :D

if i died tonight i would have no toasty regrets, but i do fear that all future toasted sarnies will not live up to this moment

I've got a really good one from Woolies which is flat on the bottom and ridged on the top so you can make toasties out of all sorts of bread. My Mum was so impressed she's got one as well, and so has my aunt!

Are Woolies still selling them:confused:

Aw I like the ones that look like cows, but like Tanky Im quite gadget free , but I do have a toaster !! With regards to toastie things I would use it too much and get fat.....I love bread and I don't need more gadgets to make my love affair bigger.

I know what you mean about getting fat (or in my case, fatter) - toasties are so tempting, they call out to you and before you know it they've got you hooked

Toasties are fantastic! Nothing like them.

Cheese and bacon (or pancetta) are luuuuuusssshhhhhhh.

i had a toastie for breakfast :) my last 3 meals (and 1 snack) have been toasties

i am a toastie addict :(

"Cop-out option"

I've only ever had a few of these. I love toasted sarnies, but cleaning the bloomin things always seemed like very hard work, and this put me off making the sarnies.

Plus, I only had a few ideas which I got bored with.

Grrrrr - I want a toastie maker!!!

Going to resist buying both that and a breadmaker until I move house as my new pad might have such items already :)

:( I want a toastie maker,,

I am really tempted to pop to argos (1/4 mile away) and get one,, tho, i am sure i have more urgent things to spend my pocket money on,,

*goes off to argos website*

I think I'm falling in love with my sandwich toaster. We're embarking on a long and cheesy relationship

Had a gorgeous toasted ciabatta in the week: pesto, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella. I love that sandwich

They will feyr....they will.....

I also forgot to say that I tend to press down on the second side with a fish slice, to get it to properly stick together and errrm, sort of 'firm up'.

That doesn't sound like a terribly good reason now that I read it back, but it's always made sense while I'm doing it.   :p

Oh and also that I like to give it a quick flip over on to the original side, just to make sure everything is properly hot and melted before I take it out of the pan.</ocd>
