yep until cbeebies comes on and then I dive across the room to turn it over. And world service overnight.

R7 is our night listening.
Love the WS but I woke up several times to hear horror stories from people around the world and decided I would rather have fluffy radio at night, then real world in the day.

Sometimes I worry he'll think Winnifred Robinson is part of our family

:D

Wharton's The Age of Innocence is on Radio 7 soon.

Wow, I pay no attention to radio. I feel like my cultural world has opened up tonight. All thanks to Sandi Toksvig.

yeah but R7 repeats and several times when I was pregnant and sleeping badly I'd wake up to Sherlock Homes in different places throughout the night, I heard the end of one story three times in the same night.

It can be disconcerting when you wake up to the world service schools programme. Last week they were pretending to be dragons!

Ace :D

I must find out what their 'real' frequencies are so I can listen to them without the computer on.

I'm switching off Front Row now. Must find something else to listen to.

edit: hehe, Hancock's Half Hour :D

I really need to get into The Archers. I feel it's time.

(31 next month - I need some adult grounding)

Vintage - don't do it; you will end up damaged. There are more murders, rapes, near deaths from drug use, bankruptcies, marital infidelities and criminal acts, per 15 minutes than all of the television soaps put together. Add to that the poorly researched scripts and the whole improbability of such a place existing in the modern world along with the irritating voices of many of the characters and you have a reason to do something, anything, else at all instead.

Listening to the Archers is not grown up and it is not clever.

The 7 O'clock Archers opening is my cue to switch on Channel 4 News.

:D

But I so desperately want to belong.

She's ace.
Made me almost pee myself laughing on her radio 4 quiz recently. Something about someone (god this is vague...) turning Muslim, which she described as 'going a bit funny'.

I've become a big convert to the News Quiz, easily the funniest thing on radio these days. ST's brilliant on it, though she doesn't seem that good on other things.

Always had a soft spot for Toksvig. Good on her for everything that she's done, say I. And Gawd Bless Radio 4 too -- the only piece of media that is actually worth paying for and we all get it for free.

Punt and Dennis dont change do they? :D They keep rocking the 1990s!

The Now Show does have its moments, but that song about Gail Trimble the other week was just cringey, spectacularly ill judged.

TBF, that wasn't Punt and Dennis, it was Mitch Benn. Although it was the responsibility of the producers to pass it despite it being, as you say, cringily ill judged.

... is not for radio.

You don't need a TV licence to have a radio. The clue is in the name.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/info/licencefee/

The section you want is called "What your licence fee provides"

The BBC provides 8 interactive TV channels, 10 radio networks, more than 50 local TV and radio services, the BBC's website, and the on-demand TV and radio service, BBC iPlayer.

E2a. I accept the note about Mitchell Benn. :)

Yes, if you pay your licence fee then this does pay for Radio 4. But the fact remains that you do NOT need a licence fee to listen to Radio 4, which means that you can listen to it for free. People without a licence legitimately get Radio 4 free. Absolutely free, I tells ya.
