sample clearance

Maybe, but firstly 'the record label' are just cutting and distributing a record, there is no real 'labe' as such so no company lawyer. At work I do have music lawyers so I don't see any reason why I shouldn't ask them. I'm sure they can give me an immidiate asnswer but I'm not in work to ask them until Monday.
Secondly, I was asked to find out for a friend so I think I double check instead of saying "a message board said it would be ok". I'm sure it will be fine.

ah, sorry, thought you were meaning you were paying for a music lawyer yourself. which for a consultation would probably cost the same as pressing up 500 singles!

yes, i can understand you erring on the side of caution, but in this instance, you really have no need to.

to illustrate - you're in london, there are probably dozens of online or pirate radio stations you can tune into at this very moment. do you think ANY of the songs you hear on them will have had sample clearance? No, they won't have because nobody cares, even the multinational labels for the very reason that if a record approaches their radar another major label will licence it and sort any legal factors out, or otherwise any law suit would just provide the release with rather counterproductive publicity.

:)
