Salad cream v mayonnaise

Used to be on the free school meals a fair bit when I was a lad - but there was this period when I wasn't and my Mum would make us sandwiches for school - everyday it would be exactly the same egg sandwiches made with salad cream and a packet of quavers - it become utterly disgusting - I'm not even sure how long it was for - in my head it seems like a whole year, but was probably only a term or something. The quavers I can just about stand, but that's probably because they have 10 times as much salt in them as they used to. But eggs and salad cream - it's a no no.

Nothing wrong with salad cream or eggs - will eat egg mayonnaise sandwiches. My girlfriend's mum makes a lovely West Indian style potato salad which has eggs and a mixture of salad cream and mayo - it's really nice and I do eat it - but I know there's a bit of me that is saying no in my head.

Mayo over all.
All kinds of it, cheap is sometimes good in a tuna sarnie but MnS garlic mayo with chips is heavenly.

I do like salad cream but never really buy it.

Not a massive fan of ketchup but have been won over by the Reggae Reggae stuff.

Brown sauce with sausages for brekkie.

Tartar on scampi or battered cod.

Never had 'proper' mayo - but salad cream wins hands down over shop mayo.

This may be a reflection on growing up in S. Wales in the 70's but I'm pretty sure I never had mayo till about 1985 (is it a coincidence that this was also the victory of thatcherism? I think not)

I remember in Belgium they would always go completely over the top if you asked for mayonnaise with your fries, splodging a mammoth load all over the top. :D

i don't even have any in right now. it doesn't form a vital part of my diet, but i like it every now and then!

I think I like it because it was denied to me as a child, although I also love HP and that was available in abundance.

Yuk.

I like most food stuffs but Salad Cream reeks of school dinners where the salads were just plain lettuce, cucumber and tomato mixed together. No dressing or oil or anything to make it nice, just crappy salad cream. No wonder I hated salad as a kid.

Mayo, vinaigrette, croutons, and proper salad dressing all the way baby.
