Salad cream v mayonnaise?

Salad cream v mayonnaise

I only use mayo for mixing with tuna or salmon, as salad cream would overpower them.

If I have a ham or turkey sandwich I like to put lashings of salad cream in it as well.

Home-made mayo, fresh out of the blender is the only way. Goes off after 20 mins, then it's only fit for the dogs. Stuff in jars is rank.

Salad cream is the work of the devil.

Like them both for different things i.e. the vinegary Salad cream brings up the flavour of coleslaw (when mixed as a 1:3 with Mayo) and is great with scrambled eggs! Grew up with salad cream - only experienced Mayo when we went to see my granny in Germany who had Thomy Mayo in a toothpaste-type tube. When Hellmans became more available my Ma wouldn't buy it because it was too expensive. After I started working in kitchens in my late teens I learned the mysteries of making the stuff (used to have to make about 2 gallons of it every morning), showed my Ma how to do it and she's been making it ever since. ;)

Depends on what they're supposed to be on, no?

Usually none of the above. Blech! Anyone who's ever made mayo will be a bit apprehensive about consuming large amounts of it.

I'm not a huge fan myself, but making it yourself makes a genuinely different product. Worth it for the occasional blowout.

I like the idea of being a mayo snob by buying one slightly different brand of premade stuff over another
:D

Fact is Salad Cream was developed during war and post war austerity to replace Mayo. It is far to sweet and should should be allowed to slide into the dustbin of history like the Sinclair C5, Beetamax and Nazism.

It's a class thing, isn't it. And anyone who voted for anything other than brown sauce will be offed come the revolution.

I'd liked some of you, too. :(

So thats everyone who doesn't hail from the land of deep fried skag and stabby then?

You'll have to dig them lime pits deep, yea deep and wide.

Salad cream blows, and brown sauce is horribly overrated (achhh sauseee on mah chipppp meal! :o). Almost everything else is awesome, especially tartar/horseradish sauce. :D

I chose all the sauce options, they are all acceptable, its good to have a range of options, for that dinner time chip dip.

Last night I mixed salad cream, mayo, ketchup and brown sauce together in an attempt at making a wonderful new unified sauce that might just bring this community together and stop this bickering.... (lime pits indeed!)

Salad cream for salads, egg sandwiches, fish finger sandwiches. Good Mayo (not that Helman's crap), for chips and tuna.
I also grew up with Salad Cream, mayonnaise was some bland shit poshos had, though I've acquired the taste since. Salad cream last for ages unlike Mayo too.

Not this again.

Mayo of course, salad cream was invented for loosers.
