Sailing!

Knowing nowt about sailing, is it possible that with the wind speeds being what they are he just decided to win the race outright?

He's got the physique and the strength for it and he outsailed Railey at the start, forced him to turn and end up at the back of the field, so i really hope he's going for it. Looks like he is!

well if he finishes in the top five it doesn't matter where Railey finishes

Indeed, but he's in first place. What a way to get his gold! (Railey's made up a lot of ground and is still on for silver.)

Last leg is with the wind behind, what a sight, he's flying down to the finish!

Silver in men's 470 this morning :) I think they targeted four sailing medals from the Games so they're well on course with a few more medal chances lined up

They did really well to get that apparently. They were being edged out of the start, a bit like Ainsley did to Railey on Saturday, but managed to get away! Just looked at the standings, they beat France and Holland by one point!

Looking good in the laser class tomorrow. Could be another gold there for Paul Goodison.

Men's windsurfing is really close, 4 points seperating the top 3, with GB's Nick Dempsey in 2nd. Close in the women's as well, Byrony Shaw 4th, 9 points off the lead.

Men's star class a possibility as well, lying in 4th atm 10 points off the lead.

Bit overcautious there - Rasmus Myrgren has to win the medal race and Paul Goodison would have to either finish last or sink for GB to be denied gold.

So I'm chalking this up in the gold medal column :p

Surprise, surprise, Paul Goodison claims gold

Meanwhile, after ten races, Bryony Shaw is third and Nick Dempsey second in their respective windsurfing contests. With the medal races to come tomorrow, Dempsey is one point behind the leader while Shaw is eight points off gold and three behind the silver medal position.

Nick Dempsey has an arrangement with Sarah Ayton whereby whoever medals higher in these games gets to keep their surname when they marry :D

Bronze for Byrony Shaw in the womens laser :) Good race that. First sailing medal for China's women, gold at that, and silver for Italy. Seemed to be in the balance throughout until the last leg. She was well chuffed :D Not bad, bronze in your first olympics

Who was the bronze medal winning sailor or windsurfer woman who has just cried and cussed her way through a live BBC Breakfast interview?!
e2a- Bryony Shaw?

I was in tears of mirth watching her being 'just so fucking happy!' :D :D

The div reporter who was in a launch along side her, scrambling to apologise and explain that she was swearing cos she was happy was equally choice!

Cut to Hazel Irving creasing and Adrian Chiles who called her a sweary Gwyneth Paltrow :D

More of this sort of thing!

Percy & Simpson about to go in the Star medal race - they need to finish ahead of the Swedes to claim gold

GB into gold medal position, nifty maneuvre to overtake the Swedes there

Looked like the Brazilians were in gold medal position, then we caught up. Still ahead of the Swedes. It's so hard to tell what's going on though

The sailors have been Britain's most foulmouthed team of the Olympics. Quite right too

BBC Story:

Ainslie as good as Phelps - Rogge

Olympics chief Jacques Rogge says Ben Ainslie's achievement in winning a third sailing gold is the equal of Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt's heroics.

In an exclusive interview with BBC sports editor Mihir Bose, Rogge said Ainslie deserved greater recognition.

"For me, his achievement is as valid as Phelps or Bolt," said Rogge.

Which is nice :)
