Saddam sentenced to death by hanging

Not much, Saddam proved not to be the rallying point some predicted...

eta: Reports of clashes breaking out in Baghdad (as expected)

They celebrated like mad when his sons got it .Though as celebrations involved firing what ever they had into the air it wasent particularly safe.Sort of
guy fawkes with tracers:) .With the odd what the hell was that moment when something particular big and exsplosive got launched .

Yeah more of the same here! A few minutes ago on BBC News 24, a "live at the scene" reporter had to break from the broadcast to go inside, the sound of gunfire all over the place... although this time some of it could be in anger from the Sunnis...

When called to court, Saddam Hussein, dressed in his usual dark suit and white shirt and carrying a Koran, walked to his customary seat and sat down.
...
As the judge began reading the death sentence Saddam Hussein shouted out "Allahu Akbar!" (God is Greatest)

Looks like another one's found religion in the nick.:)

Someone on the news yesterday said they have to carry out the execution within 30 days of the verdict but he also has the Kurd gassing trial to complete. He'll be dead before Xmas.

It was us that put him in the position he was in, knowing exactly what he's like.

So I'd say go with the firing squad.

He's our boy and we owe him that much.

Also worth pointing out that this wonderful new Iraqi judicial system can't put anyone in the occupying forces on trial, no matter what the crime...

I won't diss religious people (some of my best friends etc. etc.) but these people who 'find God' in prison while waiting for their punishment really stick in my craw.

jusr a quick one. i think that that trial is a total sham. how can they even uphold the sentance?

to support it would be a crime against the man regardless of what he was supposed to have done

the whole thing has been setup by bush and blair who have acted liek total wankers in all of this.

lied about wmd's just to attack the guys SOVRIEGN country and then did this to him. its almost like a personal vendetta for bush following in daddies footsteps.

what has the attack on iraq achieved? civil war thousands of innocent civilians dead and our own soldiers being sent home dead constantly.

really sorry but i thinks its disgusting, a shambles and a crime that he has been sentanced to death using laws which were made AFTER the poor bastards country was invaded.

i am not a supporter nor am i a muslim and i do not believe in any god or religion but i know injustice when i see it and those that have helped to convict saddam in that kangaroo court should be ashamed of themselves.

useless court
unfair trial
bastards.

This serves the needs of the gullible/delusional who seek solace in a body of empy, meaningless signs. Corks will pop in the Pentagon and on US military bases. The State Dept will issue a statement to say how "pleased" they are that "justice has been done". Meanwhile, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Perle, Feith and all the others get off scot-free, thanks to the extremely nrrow remit of the court. And why wasn't Saddam tried in the Hague? I have never heard one, single convincing argument in defence of that decision.

Really, for the 5000 gassed Kurds or his victims who were dropped in to meat mincers, having said that i'm reminded of Lenny Bruces piece comparing Eichmann and the Holocaust to the dropping of the Atom bomb on Hiroshima, eg both victims melted, i don't suppose for an Iraqi civilian it was was very pleasant suffocating and dying from cruise missiles, etc, either.

iraq was a much better country to live in under saddam hussein than it is now. saddam's not the one who should be hanged.

You do realise that the Kurds have been at war with Baghdad from Iraq's inception? No, I didn't think so. What about the British? They killed thousands of Kurds during the mandate. Forgot about that one - eh?

It's so nice to have scapegoats - isn't it?
