Sack Parliament - October 9th 2006

basically, its a blockade! :p

Details:

Over the past few years the UK parliament and government have led this country into war upon war, torn up age-old rights and made the division between rich and poor to grow ever wider. Despite only 22% of the electorate voting for them the Labour party has suppressed any opposition to its legislation, whilst opposition parties have continued to offer them a veil of legitimacy by engaging in weak debate rather than denouncing this one-party state.

Despite repeated mass protests parliament has ignored those it is supposed to represent and consistently sided with continuing wars and further authoritarian legislation.

We have only one option left: Sack parliament
We must sack parliament because:
* It has been complicit in the war of terror and the continued destruction of Iraq and Afghanistan
* It has failed to condemn and challenge acts of state terror and collective punishment from Lebanon and Palestine to all those illegally interned in Guantanamo Bay and Belmarsh
* It has helped erode our civil rights: the right to free movement, free assembly and free speech have been undermined with curfews, ‘no protest’ zones, ASBOs and increased police power

MPs and Lords return from their summer recess on October 9th. We need to ensure they can’t get back inside Parliament to stop them spreading their culture of fear.

Take part! Stop them continuing their wars.

Please visit the website - http://www.sackparliament.org.uk - for updates, and details of past actions.

This action came out of the emergency assembly called to discuss a direct action response to the Lebanon/ Israel war, Iraq, Afghanistan and the continuing insecurity around the globe. In the past three weeks the assembly has facilitated six actions, including the blockade of Brize Norton and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

my idea was to blockade them in for the night rather than keep them out which i thought would've been much more productive
seems pointless it merely gives them a free day's holiday... if they did it for a week or a month now that might affect things....

There's a good chance this technically qualifies as Sedition or High Treason.

Even if the gibbet isn't in prospect, an arrest under the Terrorism Act 2000 very well might be!

why did you just quote me then? did you misread what i said?

this way theyre getting a free day off - thats the last thing they get my way

i'll be going either way

even if i were to get arrested it would hopefully bring attention to the immoral nature of all this new legislation

Leaving aside the pointless stuntism of the whole idea, has it occurred to anybody that announcing stuff like this in advance on public bulletin boards that are read by police and journalists might be a really stupid fucking idea?

But what else? Either you have a tiny group of people doing something secret, or you get larger numbers by making publicity.

There is a third option, you know.

This might seem a bit radical here and call me crazy if you want, but we could always just not waste our fucking time on things that we already know won't work.

If you want to bring people round to your point of view, then doing things that are actually relevant to them might just be more effective than pointless stunts.

Any specific suggestions then?

I am not sure what this group are trying to achieve by blockading "parliament". Can anyone enlighten me?

If it's a publicity stunt, fair enough, but for whom?

Focussing on more bread and butter stuff would be a good start, workplace and community action.

It's not the be all and end all, but it's the most important thing IMO, and the only area where we have any chance of having a real effect at the moment.

Maybe, but the point was that if people are going to do this stuff then advertising them isn't as stupid as you say.
It depends on your aim. If your aim is to actually blockade parliament (which would be stupid, because you'll never be able to do it), then advertising it is stupid, it's also stupid if you want to get some positive publicity for your cause, because the police won't let anybody who looks like they might do anything like this on the day now.

If your aim is to get beaten up and/or nicked then shouting it from the rooftops is probably the best thing to do here, I suppose.

i agree ut going into parliment with a group of people and live media and publicly trying and exicuting mp's and lords isn't really a modern day option is it... although the gun powder plot... i have an idea email me at [email protected]
