Moisturiser

Heat protecton spray for hair

OK, 9 not 10, but I can't do without any of them.

They don't have soap where you travel?

What's Aqueous cream?

No Body Shop? No L'Occitane? (sp?)

Shaving foam - er, use shaving gel or soap?

Alternatively, buy at your destination?

Body Shop!! This is Saaarf East London Minnie. :D

On my local high street, there are only two national chains. One last bank (the other closed down), and a bookmakers. Everything else is independent.

The last time I took shaving gel, it was confiscated. See how even you, as a regular flyer, can't figure out the exact rules?

As I say, if I did it often enough, I'd work out how to do it. I just don't want to. And thankfully don't have to.

I don't use soap, it's bad for my skin. Aqueous cream is a moisturiser that can also be used to wash with. I can't believe you've never heard of it!

I've heard of it, just didn't know what you did with it :o

But surely some of these things could be bought at your destination - unless your destination is the middle of the dessert/jungle/Antarctica or it's more expensive than at home?

What size container was your shaving gel?

I live in South West London and we have a Body Shop, Boots and Superdrug. Where on earth do you live that you don't have any of those nearby?

They could, but you would end up with full size bottles which you are unlikely to use all of, and either have to take them home with you (which kind of defeats the object of it) or chuck them away.

Previous flights:

Berlin, arriving about 9pm, with a very closely timed S-Bahn / D-Bahn journey, arriving in a hamlet at midnight. No shops at all.

Riga, arriving about 7.30pm, Taxi (non English speaking) direct to coast. Shops shut for evening. Next day due to be up early and out in to countryside. No shops open.

Belfast, arrived about 6.00pm, after being ejected from an earlier flight for having a cut ear. (Not joking, had to buy another ticket). On this destination, yes, corner shops would probably have been open.

I leave them for the cleaning ladies :D

Which countries do you travel to then?

Well if you will go to places in the middle of nowhere :p

SE1. The coolest bit of zone 1. :)

I've just done a lookup on Body Shop's site, using my postcode. The nearest stores (Waterloo, Surrey Quays) are about a 40 minute round trip.

40 minutes isn't deadly, it's just another 40 minutes of air travel specific crap, to add to all the other crap.

In 40 minutes I can be at St Pancras, looking at that amazing station and a nice big shiny Eurostar.

SE1 sounds like Borough to me. Only a 133 bus ride to Brixton

Maybe I'm wrong though if it's coming up with Waterloo, Surrey Quays being nearest.

Where's SE1?

Maybe Tower Bridge?

Can't remember seeing sub 100ml bottles of anything I need in the places I shop (cornershop, local small chemist, etc). There's no Superdrug or Boots around here, or in many of London's backwaters. I suppose I could get the bus to one, as part of my preparation for flying.

And you can't make your own bottle of shaving foam, although I guess you could try and messily decant some gel from one container to another.

No need.

Gillette do 75ml cans of gel and you can get it in Boots and Sainsbuys.

Made for flying. :)

Yep, I've got a 75ml can of Gillette Fusion Gel that I got with a Razor (RRP near enough £10, but got it in Boots sale for £2.99) :D

Come in orange packaging if paolo's having trouble finding it on the shelf

I haven't found Ryanair any better or worse than Easyjet or any other cheapo airline.

They are cheap and usually pretty punctual, which is what matters for me.

Just ignore Mr Ryanair Bigmouths silly comments - as others have said, he only does it for the publicity.

Pay with a Visa Electron card and you don't get charged any surcharges at all. I use my Halifax Cardcash account for all flight bookings, Ryanair or Easyjet (thus avoiding all of these surcharges), "Electron" accounts are very easy to open.

Giles..

Its terrible how these independently-owned shops are driving out the big chains and banks, isn't it?

All that variety, and not being able to rely on the comfort of big corporate brands makes shopping so boring....
