Ryanair...never again

5 days in Sardinia - this should be the view from my hotel room window next week:

Then a couple of days in Rome, then via Lake Garda to the Dolomites

Then a couple of nights in Venice.

Very very excited - lots of places I've always wanted to go in one holiday :)

Well wear some jumpers and a big jacket, chunkiest heaviest shoes to the airport. Get your toiletries once you're through customs or once you get to your destination. That should reduce the weight a bit :D

I take it you're taking hand luggage and a case?

That's the plan :D

Rucksack as carry-on and a wheeled suitcase thing. Walking boots are being worn to travel - (that's half a kilo right there - yes, I've weighed them) along with my big hoody and anything else bulky.

Depending on where you are going in Sardinia try to get to Posada, a fortified medieval village. I stayed there last year and it was magical:

 Just checked the map - we're staying in the Golfo di Orosei area which is just a little way south of that, and we've got to travel right past Posada on our last day to get the ferry to Rome, so I'll definitely make a stop there - looks beautiful!

*adds to itinerary*

Excellent :). If you're there at lunchtime have some fantastic seafood at Sa Rocca. Lovely setting in the small village square, not expensive, and the chilled, sparkling desert wine they serve is lush. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...aurant_at_Hotel_Sa_Rocca-Posada_Sardinia.html

And how many pairs of underwear are you taking? :hmm:

I don't understand why you're having trouble with 25kg allowance

We did a programme a while back about whether budget airlines are a false economy and the phones were red hot. :D One of the problems is that they can just cancel the flight and refund your money without having to offer an alternative, or hotel accommodation. One bloke said he was stranded in Marrakech by Ryanair. It cost him about a grand to get home - so not a budget flight after all.

Only 7 - have laundry soap ;)

am sure it'll be ok - it's just a bit tighter than I'd like. It might be 25kg, but when you consider about 7-8kg is just the weight of the luggage itself, and you don't want to be too close to the limit in case your scales (or theirs!) are out, it's still only about 15kg. Reckon about 6-7kg of walking/climbing gear at least, 1Kg on first aid kit, toiletries, sun cream etc. Which only leaves 7-8kg for everything else for a fortnight's hols.

if people choose not to take the insurance and then get stranded when a flight is cancelled its really their own fault. its clearly stated in the terms and conditions what happens when a flight is cancelled.

Well a first aid kit doesn't weigh much, or have you already made the plaster in case you break your leg? :hmm:

Toiletries can all be bought at your destination or at the airport.

Underwear dries in two days max. Take less. Won't make much difference weightwise but... :D

After spending years doing tons of business travel, I've always managed by taking enough clothes for only four days. Just wash them out. Take a warm jumper and coat and wear them on the plane. Buy suncream there (it's often cheaper), use a Lush shampoo bar as shampoo and also use it like soap in the shower, instead of shower gel.

I agree though, Ryanair can go to hell. I hate the thought of lining that mans pockets.

Beautiful pics. I'm jealous :)

I also hate the thought of lining his pockets - when traveling through work though I do have to take the cheapest options so unfortunately that means - at times - Ryanair :(

For cheap flights to Germany though - German Wings are fine and fly from Stanstead - I often have to go to Bonn and always use them.

Ryanair can fuck off. Flew with them once, they trashed our luggage on the way their and refused to replace it, then cancelled our flight on the way back and refused to fulfill their legal obligations.

Never again.

If they havent changed it since last year... you can only check in for your return flight between 48-2 hours before your return flight so the online check in is the only way possible

We travelled with them last year because it was ridiclously cheap but it wouldnt be now theyve introduced enormous, unjustifiable CC and check in charges

You can check in up to 15 days before your flight maximum and 4 hours minimum

Did you try for compensation under EC Regulation 261/2004?

Here's a summary:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2006/feb/22/britishairways.theairlineindustry

If you have a look at flightmole, there's some very useful precedents there (e.g. after how many hours does a "delay" become a cancellation).

I've used this against BA and Air France in cases of cancellation and received my full compensation on 3 occasions now.

Even Ryanair isn't immune....

Ryanair point blank refused. We couldn't be arsed to chase it through the courts. It was 4 years ago now.

Have you ever read the Ryanair t&cs though? They basically say that if they decide not to run your flight then you can just suck their cocks. Their contract terms would make Hell blush.

Can we not just make it a sticky thread? "Do Not Fly Ryanair As They Will Fuck You In The Ass."

No, because some people do fly them because they have no alternative.

The thread title should just be a simple Ryanair Are Cunts

I had a client near Prestwick airport and would always take the train from London to Glasgow, rather than fly Ryanair. Seeing as you can now plug in your laptop on most trains, it wasn't like I was wasting time by training it, Ryanair planes are so cramped there isn't room to open a laptop fully, never mind use it. I pay for quite a bit of my business travel myself, I've found that if you add up cost of airport transfers /cost of buying food and drinks onboard etc, theres barely any difference, Ryanair often comes out more inconvenient and expensive. It seems that most people are finally cottoning on to this con at last.

I think someone said it in the last thread on Ryanair, but it bears repeating:

Easyjet's corporate motto is "Cheap and Cheerful*"
(*Cheerful may cost extra)

Ryanair's is "Fuck you."

I flew return preswick to Gothenhburg with them 2 weeks back and had a nice cheap easy flight. On time, piss easy boarding and baggage intact. I thought the staff looked a bit like dinner ladies in those tabards though:D
£3 for a brew is why i'm glad i took my flask.
£20 out £10 back in August:) Worked for me.

Easy peassssssssy:p
Take empty flask through security, fill in cafe on free refill blag whilst waiting to board. ;) not just an ugly mug me you know:D
