Russia v England

Russia have two games to play, against shit teams, we only have one :(

However they played at Wembley, they don't lose in Tel Aviv very often. And they drew in Moscow.

And if we can't beat Croatia at Wembley in the circumstances, then Russia deserve to go instead of us.

Difficult to blame anyone other than the ref for being conned - we were just very unlucky.

I am a Scotland fan, but I thought I would listen in on 5 live on the way home to the England game to get me in the 2008 mood.

What a pile of shite that commentary was. To paraphrase:

"if you are just joing us, we can only apologise about the sound quality (fifth time in 3 mins since I "joined them"). Yes, Russia hopes to stage a championship, but with this technology, you have to wonder. Yes, in my 30 years of broadcasting I have never..GOAL!"

Can we sling Steve McClaren out now or do we have to wait till after the next game?:)

I think we should pick a potential replacement now and have him waiting on the touchline at Wembley, just so McLaren knows he's hanging by his nutsack in the highly unlikely event he isn't aware of that already.

The Israelis don't have fuck all to play for though or can they still qualify?

if they finish high enough in the group, it'll get them a higher seeding for the world cup qualifiers so there is still something to play for, but russia are in the driving seat:mad:

Neither did Georgia tonight.

For the World Cup groups, even 2nd isn't guaranteed a berth so I guess teams will be playing to be seeded as high as possible.

:D

Listing to the radio, that goal did seem to come out of no-where.

Robinson was definitely at fault for that, why was he playing?.

[bonehead] Because David James is dodgy as fuck [/bonehead]

Despite this he is the form England goalkeeper. His game has improved massively over the last three years, and his partnership with Campbell would have proved invaluable tonight. Instead Robinson (whose form seems linked to Ledley King's fitness, or is that just me that can see that) gets the nod, and flaps his way around.

Just seen the MoTD 'high'lights, managed to avoid all knowledge for 5 hours before that

Fucking bollocks!!!!!! is all I can say.

We're out!!

Why didn't Gerrard or Campbell score those chances??

:(

<concentrates on music, beer, drugs and festivals from now on ... >

Football = shite ..... :mad:

if we qualify for that as well.

can someone clear something up for me? everyone's saying Russia have to slip up for us to qualify but can't we still beat croatia to qualification? if they loose to macedonia and then we beat them and by more than 2 goals then we go through right? is it goal difference?

If Russia win their last two games they're through at our expense, even if we beat Croatia 100-0.

Someone "big" usually manages to fuck it up in the qualifiers, looks like it's our turn.

Ho-hum.

My '08 summer drinking expedition has been bowled a googly mind :( which is what it's all about tbh.

but my point is Croatia are on 26 points and we're on 23 points. If they loose to macedonia - lets say 1-0 - then it stays like that and their goal difference is better than us by 2 goals. we then beat them 3-0 (which seems to be the trend at Wembley at the mo) and we're both on 26 points and we've got a better goal difference by one goal.

Extremely unlikely I know but still weird that its not been pointed out. Even reporters are saying the "only" way to qualify is if Russia fail to win one of their last 2 games.

Nah, we need croatia to thrash macedonia and be comfortably qualified by the time they play us, as then they can relax and won't mind if we win. I do have a feeling israel will get something against russia though, so it won't be all in vail

I think they can still do it. Ive seen em scrape thru before. Was just about to put my money where my mouth is at ladbrokes but..

England to qualify for Euro 2008 finals 13/8

Not much point really. Clearly im not the only one who thinks theyve still got a fair chance.

I love the way everyone is trying to 'talk up' an Israel win, com'on, thier trainer was Avram Grant before he conned Chelski....and Israel are going to beat Russia....

Hardly likely. wooow, I've just seen that invisible squadron of flying pigs.

No it wasn't.

Grant was Portsmouth's Technical Director from 2006, our Franco-Russian owner parked him at the club until Mourinho got the boot.

The Isrealis have got a decent home record but its hard to know what their attitude will be on the night seen as they dont have nothing to play for,the Russians know exactly what they have to do,win and they're on their way to Euro 2008.

It was never a penalty. Simple.

A stupid challenge, free kick on the edge of the box. Why do we still not allow the refs to have a quick check where the offence was?

It will likely make the difference between England going to Euro 08 or not, after all.

Otherwise England played exactly as they always do, direct, fast, long-ball stuff which looked impressive at times but blunt-edged and over-hopeful when the chips were down.

Doesn't always mean jack. Look how hard greece played against us in the final WC 2002 qualifier.
