Rushmore

Everyone here moaned and put on Old School.

You can't fight that shit.

FRANK THE TANK! FRANK THE TANK! That film is a classic of its genre itself, so I'm actually not too fussed. Is that the one where it opens with the wedding scene and Vince Vaughn is saying "here it is...one vagina for the rest of your life" etc.? I may have to watch that film again, actually - it's where I first fell in love with Will Ferrell.

Also, I liked Darjeeling Limited too. I thought it had a really nice pace to it. As a film experience it was like curling up on the settee with a not too bad hangover and a hot chocolate. Possibly lamest thing I've ever said, but I'm sick and tired.

that makes sense - if you like his style, you'll find it warm and comfortable watching his movies, like a familiar cardigan or something.

Lost in Translation is another wonderful film, and it's absurd to think it's racist -it's about difference, not racism. It would have worked the same if Murray had been an Inuit staying in a hotel in Dubai.

My mate's a Japan-obsessive with a Japanese wife and they both loved it.

I have to admit, I didn't love the film as much as some, but I have a strong suspicion I might enjoy it more if I watched it again.

quite. the overwhelming majority of the japanese in it are portrayed in a very positive way, there's a real respect for the culture, and there's 2pretty much just one "stereotype", the call girl. The jokes were about things like size (big Yank in small Japanese shower) and as I said earlier, those jokes were about difference and could have involved any number of ethnic / national combinations and still worked.

think thats bacily my problem with it. Really don't like the style.

Its too subtle with not a lot happening for a film, if nothing really happens i perfer a series where you can get proper in depth with the charecters. There werent any big/pivotol scenes in the film; only when the protege(was that the kid from blue bros 2000?) decided to tell max about the "relationship" between the teacher and Murray.

I wanted max to properly crack up or something(anything) but it just kept bumbling along untill the chinease girl randomly popped up and made him get over things and put them right by giving him the merest bit of attention.

Boring!

The revenge montage was about the only bit i enjoyed, that was decent. Don't get me wrong it was well acted and dircted and put togethr and stuff but i never really cared about the charcters or what was going on and there was nothing to grab my attention when i started to get bored.

Adverts really didn't help either.

Was this based on a book? I could imagine it working better as a book.

dave, did you like The Squid and the Whale ? Because most of those geneal criticisms apply almost 100% to that film. Horrible film.

never heard of it or seen it.

Is there any reason the main charecters names kinda came from the producers in this film? Max & blume? Or is that just a conincidence?
