Rushmore

Does everyone find themselves identifying with Bill Murray in, like, every film he does, or is that just me?

i can see that

did you hear about him getting nicked driving pissed through Oslo in a stolen golf cart? Was only a couple of years ago

yeah, i love love love this film. flatmate, philistine that he is, has just changed the channel though :(

what I love about Anderson's films is that they have a rep for being overstylised and mannered and cold, but he does always get to some emotional core, even if in the oddest ways (like when they find the tiger shark in Life Aquatic, that made me well up in some weird fucking way)

pretty shit to be honest.

No real charecter arks or anything. Everyone stayed pretty much how they were from the opening 5 minsutes of them being introduced in the film.

I may have chortled when bill murray( i dont remember any of his charecters names in any film he has ever been in, he is just bill murray) nicked and wrecked max's bike and a couple of other times and its just about watchable and well acted but I really can't belive people wet themselves over it.

I hope chikey takes your fiver ken.

You've never posted anthing ever in all your time here that's right.

oh dave, you're beyond hope :p

all else aside, you don't think Max changes? :D

max changes a fair bit but he is always to the same manipulative little shit even once he's learned his big real friends take the hit type lesson.

Awkward people remain awkward but find happiness type stuff just bores me. I had my doubts the second jefe said lost in translation was good. Really not any of my kinds of films.

Butchers, go fuck yourself.

Rushmore's wicked, not sure if it's my favourite Anderson film though, but it's very loveable. Some fucking fantastic scenes... the ginner boys in the car and Bill Murray outside it.... ahhhh.

I should rewatch it, got it somewhere, but i've been rubbish at watching films recently. Pretty surprised to see all the love for it here actually haha

well i loved it ken. and i didn't even realise you were banging on about a Wes Anderson film... :o

you lot are mean to dave...so what if he thinks it's shit? that's allowed :p i didn't but i do agree with him about Bill Murray - love him though i do, he's always exactly the same character in every single film he's in.

i love "rushmore"
im more a fan of jason schwartzman than bill murray tho..
tho of course murray is good at playing grumpy bitter men.;)

like the fact that the film is kind of an homage to "harold and maude"..music is used in a very similiar way in each film:cool:
wes andersan rates harold and maude and its director hal ashby highly..in fact schwartzman's dad produced "being there", last film for both peter sellers and ashby.

despite his extensive hollywood family connections making him a shoo-in,
i think jason is often a very funny young comedian, and i HATE most comedies/comic actors ( jim carey springs to mind..tho "yes man" his last film is passable, possibly due to the presence of jasons gf zoey deschanel as carey's wacky love interest!):p

sadly, IMHO andersons last film dejeerling limited(with schwartzman) was dire..certainly compared to the heights of rushmore :(

beyond the Cat Stevens songs, I don't see any real stylistic parallels betweeen Rushmore and Harold & Maude at all..
