and why's that then?
See previous posts on flyering companies. They don't do it for free.
And, more importantly, if you want to engage people enough to want to come to your night, you need to be doing it yourself, talking with the potential punters.
Networking as I said.

yes and only the person doing the night can do the networking  no one else is invested in it, no one else can be interesting about it, no one else can be fucked to help you with it...

have you a vivid imagination? have you any friends willing to lend you a hand? and have you a notion of how to interest the sorts of people who can do your work for you without any great effort? sadly the answer to all three questions appear to be 'no'.

It's easy enough to get mates to do the door and make drops in record shops, but not so easy to get them to stand outside when everyone is dancing to the last couple of hours of the headline sets. It really is best to do it yourself. Small club nights need that personal touch. If you can't be bothered to do it yourself, then you should probably be doing something else.

if you have to do it all yourself, you shouldn't get into the club nights thing in the first place as it's clear you've no mates or people skills.

Promoters are seldom single individuals. They are usually a small team of like-minded individuals.

when i was doing it, i had one guy who used to design my flyer, one guy who would print it, then I would mostly myself do shop drops and hand outs, and now there is all this social media stuff which adds a whole new dimension.

I utterly detest flyering. I really hate approaching people with an ulterior motive.

Simply handing them out is not enough, you really have to sell the night and talk to strangers about it, and I find that really hard.

However, when I get into conversations organically (as always happens) it is fantastic to be able to invite someone along and give them a flyer. I've got loads of people along that way, and usually they have stayed friends ever since.

I was stunned to go back to a stranger's house party once to find some of my flyers from a few years ago on the wall.
Was literally mind-blowing.

FB and internet advertising is one thing, but if a punter can associate a face and personality with a party, it can really swing whether they go or not. Plus dont forget the souvenier factor. People like to collect things. If you have decent flyers with a common theme, it can really build up brand identity.

Back in Manchester, Havok had the best flyers going... it was important to hold onto them, they were fricking awesome!
