Rugby World Cup Japan, 2019 - predictions, chat and news

flypanam

arise, weeping prophets
The world cup in Japan is days away. A month of excitment, early mornings, and skivving is afoot. As well has joy, hubris, and devestation.

Lets use the thread for outragreous sledging, minute about offside lines and dissecting Warren Gatland's pre and post match barbs. (Sorry Warren, if the opposition didn't play in the way you wanted them to.)

So to get started Bob Dwyer reckoned that to win a world cup you needed five players that are world class, who on your team meets that standard?

*Title comes from the late Bill McClaren talking about Jonah Lomu.

Climbing up the aerial
The hod carrier doesn't lay the bricks the bricklayer does. The hod carrier, mixes the cement, carries the bricks and cement to the bricklayer so s/he can lay them. A good hod carrier will also do some pointing and maybe a bit of running in occasionally.

Therefore this is a shit thread title based upon a shit quote by someone who had clearly never been on a building site.

Jonah was class though

He's the only rugby player I've made a point of going to shake the hand of. I mean, I love the game and all, but it is just a game. He was special though. Lovely, lovely bloke and what an exceptional athlete before he was brought low by illness. I say brought low, but he was still literally twice the size of me and that wasn't that long before he died.

(Corporate day out bollocks, back when I was on the periphery of that sort of crap. In case you were wondering. I jumped at it precisely because he was going to be there, glad I did).

Anyway, back to the thread! Can't wait, my money is on the Kiwis, boring, but lots of fun to be had on the way I'm sure

This thread has got off to the same sort of start I expect England to in the tournament.
Jesus if England fans are worried the rest of us are in the merde.

So I’ve been thinking that Irelands world class players are Furlong, Healy, Ryan, Murray Sexton. Healy possibly isnt, but then again Murray and Sexton have been shit, both playing the 6n with injuries.

I am hopeful that we get to a semi final but we probably won’t the saffas getting felix Jones as a coach is a disaster as he knows all our calls.

As an outside bet I’ve put a tenner on France and a fiver on Australia.

Games outside of Ireland Vs Scotland I’m most looking forward too are Saffas vs brand black, Samoa vs anyone and Canada vs Namibia.

I don't know much about rugby but I'm looking forward to all the arguing on this thread.

Shofokuji temple is worth a look, it's an old Zen temple, they're really beautiful, got into the Zen gardens out there. Then there's Momochi seaside park which is a futuristic district along the waterfront. Then there's Canal City which is a large shopping complex. It's a beautiful city, not on the itinerary of most visitors to Japan but with its own laidback style which is a bit different from Tokyo or Osaka.

Great, thank you. I'm there for 3 days and the only things I had on my list so far were Yatai stalls, tonkotsu ramen, and maybe a day trip to Yanagawa to eat unagi (as you can maybe tell I'm there for the food!)

Where's bendeus by the way?
Really busy atm and going through one of my 'rugby, meh!' phases. Went and saw the Wales-England game with Grandma Death and his drunken valleys possee a couple of weeks ago, which was fun in a fairly yawnsome way.

Dunno what to say, really. Wales have been so utterly fucking pedestrian throughout the warmups that I've really struggled to give a shit. Without Anscombe and Faletau we've got big problems and using Biggar at 10 to direct a slugfest can work at home in front of a fired up Millennium Stadium but it ain't going to win anything in Japan against teams like Aus who'll just attack you from all angles.

I predict a loss to Aus and then out in the QF to England. Final to be ABs vs England.

bendeus didn’t the Welsh team have a big do/celebration of all things Gatty at the Millennium Stadium on the grass last Wednesday? Hardly going to getupfor a warm up on Saturday after a skinful of Brains and Lava bread stuffed with lamb.
