Rugby League World Cup

Gloat all you want. My team lost and the other team won. Worth gloating over.

Besides, we need a bit of humiliation from time to time. :(

Heh. Chokers and cheaters. The penalty try was deserved.

Will this lead to a resurgence of serious interest in rugby league in NZ? Not a blinking chance - it's a second class citizen there.

A ton up with the bookies, ray! and a great match to end what was a good tournament overall.

Nice to see ex-London Bronco Tommy Leulaui on the winning side, maybe the aussies shouldn't have been eyeballing them for the haka :D

Pictures often speak louder than words.

Hohaia starts the second half well.

We'll come back. Everyone knows Australia likes to share the spoils occasionally: the Ashes, The RL World Cup, Rugby World Cup. You others have your share. The powerful might of the great nation that is Australia will come back and take it's rightful place on the mantle of victory, class, and superiority. We shall speak again at that time cretins:mad:

Rubbish. You're in decline all over the shop. Honest triers capable of an upset in union, but rarely a dominant force. Cricketwise and you're being whumped by India, with not a decent bowling line-up in sight. GB even beat you in the Olympics medal table

And now this. The only sport where Australia could still claim absolute dominance, routinely beating a regionally-limited Brit side and some third rate Kiwis who couldn't get a sniff of All Black action. But you didn't even manage that, crumbling under pressure to round off a depressing Aussie sporting year.

You'll have to excuse us poms crowing for a little while
:p

Bollocks and crap

For such an expert opinion, i'd have thought that you might be at least admitting that you called the whole damned thing completely wrong and giving some praise to the deserved victors, but i suppose eating your words is difficult after the utter bollocks and negativity you continue to sprout...

You just get the sinking feeling that it's just how you knew it would be - England vs Australia in the final, with England concentrating on damage limitation. The others make up the numbers.

You want a little bit of a competition for a global tournament, not a procession towards Australia getting the title again.

Well done the Kiwis, you showed up some ignorant people for the opinionated and arrogant fools that they are. Do you ever watch something for enjoyment t, rather than thinking up another round of negativity and bitterness?

How will this go down in Australialand then?,Ive heard League is more popular that union over there, other way round in NZ.

Not sure. League is predominantly played in and around Sydney as well as Queensland afaik. There had been concerns raised, even by Ricky Stuart the coach, to the effect that their path to the final hadn't provided sufficient steel to properly play in the final, which could certainly be a factor imo. But don't forget that they also lost some key players and the replacements weren't quite up to the necessary standard.

I think there's bound to be some major disappointment but i doubt whether it will be anywhere near how England and Super League (!?) must be doubting itself. And yet, in the recent series with NZ, Smith and England won all 3 games. England were completely dismal, no excuses, but the performances of Ireland in particular as well as Scotland lead me to believe that there are reasons for optimism for the future.

Australia need to begin building for the future imo, they're a team not dissimilar to their cricketers, with quite a few very good players simply running out of years (someone else here mentioned the lack of cover for lockyer for eg, although how you even get close to someone like him is a mystery, he was superb today and unlucky to be on the losing side). And as I understand it again, their domestic comp has become slightly jaded, whereas SL has been very exciting generally for the past few years.

So if we can develop some kind of consistency, begin to really develop the young domestic players and rely less on end-of-career aussie pros, i would like to think the next w/c could be very interesting, the kangaroos out for rebirth and revenge, england looking to show that they do have some kind of pride and nz as proud holders, and a whole raft of other teams beginning to challenge the accepted order. Well, i can dream eh? :)

I think Australia could be there for the taking this year, they have quite a few players missing through injury, quite a few on debut and some playing out of position (they only have 1 real winger in the squad - Wolfman Williams from Manly and he isn't selected in the first team). Both selected wingers are really centres and both backrowers are new to the team.
Where they are strong is in the centres with Inglis and Izzy Falou.
Halfback Thurston is a fantastic player but hasn't had the best of seasons through injury (same as Lockyer).
Props will go well though although they are both long in the tooth.
Slater is a real threat from fullback so kick chase is important.

England will be a chance but only if they pick mobile forwards.
Proven to be very wise and prescient words there CherryRipe.

Well done NZ :)

Shame it's not the rugby world cup they're dying to win and have been bottling for 20 years but hey, it's something :D

Australia coach Ricky Stuart is to be formally investigated following an allegation that he abused referee Ashley Klein and leading British official Stuart Cummings the morning after the Kangaroos' shock World Cup final defeat.

Cummings, the Rugby Football League's match officials executive, claimed that he and Klein were verbally attacked by Stuart during a chance meeting in the foyer of the team's Brisbane hotel on Sunday morning.

Oz coach proves himself ungentlemanly in defeat.
