Rude tube guy berates passenger

Clearly there are two sides to every story, but I tend to agree with the side that says abusing people and shouting obsceneties is definitely not the way to go.

Not sure what you are getting at, neither side is claiming shouting is the way to go. Just one side has gone all daily mail and is rewriting the story to include a pensioner getting bullied. Wheras we are seing a 50 year old businesman being remontrated by a female member of staff, walking off and pony tail oaf starting to shout.

At no instance was physical force even threatened, so the fitness of pony tail, nor the age of the offendent is relevant.

Saying all this. It has got out of hand. The daily mail will never let it go and for Boris Johnson to get involved is ridiculous hasn't he got better things to do like designing a route master bus for example ?

Being mayor is boris' second job anyway

Certainly in terms of income

The man who took the film only started filming after the LU man started with the abuse.

Clearly something had gone on first, however from the film maker's account the LU man just kicked off, which is why he started to film.

It's very tough work dealing with the public, I have a friend who works for an airline at Heathrow and she regularly does double shifts, 6am to midnight, dealing with all manner of jumped up pricks, (people seem to get exceptionally stressed out at airports), yet if she was shout at a passenger she'd be sacked on the spot.

I couldn't do it, which is why I'd not apply for a job that led me in to such a situation. Perhaps this guy should consider a non-public facing role?

What's the arrogant old fucker doing sticking his hand in tube doors and then ignoring staff for anyway? The London undeground is an extremely dangerous place. The stupid old fucker is a danger to himself and others and should have been physically removed from the platform. Meanwhile half of London is up in arms and wants to get a working man sacked for swearing at a 'paying cunstomer'. What a ridiculous fucking world we live in.

The bullying, where was that? He was receiving a stern talking to by the female member of staff, presumably for the previous violation reported elsewhere.

The previous violation?

http://www.jonathanmacdonald.com/?p=4024

I saw an elderly man with his arm trapped in the closing door of a faulty train at Holborn Station.

We all thought the train was heading further east but actually, for reasons we shall never know, the train was terminating at Holborn and we were ushered out onto the platform by two (shouting) staff in Underground uniforms.

The elderly man was slow to get off in the mad rush, hence the entrapment.

A few people around called to staff to open the door again so he could be released.

There are indeed two sides to every story, but having had very similar experience with the subeducated morons that work on the underground, I know who's side I am on.

Nice selective editing showing how you are still desperately digging.

an didn’t think it was a problem – in fact, he was furious that the guy had mentioned it at all, especially as the guy was standing close to the track.

After a while, Ian started shouting at the guy to “stand back there is a fucking train approaching“.

Now, how I wonder did Jonathan Macdonald know the guy was furious that the guy was standing close to the track - telepathy perhaps? Or because he was asking him to move? Given, is was a while before her shouted and it wasn't until the train was approaching suggest businessman was refusing to move - hence why he was being a fucking tosser and if all he got was a bit of shouting then he gets of lightly.

As for the video, without your revisionist glasses on, all you can see is female SA talking to him with him poking his finger at her. Something is said, we don't know what, that triggers pony tail to tell him he is going to have to deal with BTP. Yet you manage to invent bullying

So we know from the witness statement that he was refusing to move beyond the yellow line for "a while" and we see him poking his finger. We see him calmly walk off.

Yet you, for your own reasons you are not sharing with us decide that age and physical strength is an issue. Why are you trying to cloud the issue with suggestion of physical intimidation - what is the axe you are trying to grind in your whole dishonest portrayal - or is it you still feel a bit stupid for commenting on something without watching it?

Anyway regardless you are fucking delusional.

Im with ponytail guy. First the LU woman then him ask the grey-haired guy to come upstairs with them so the incident (whatever that was) can be reported to the police. He refuses and gets on the train. Ponytail guy could have physically tried to restrain him. But that would have caused a big hold up on the platform instead he decides to let him go with a bollocking.

Fair enough surely, i thought his language was very restrained tbh.

Not sure why he needs to see the police because his arm got caught in the door accidentally.

The witness that filmed it suggests that businessman repeatedly refused to move away from the platform edge when asked to, to the degree where ponytail got "furious".

Not moving endangers the passenger, the station assistant any any other passengers that may not be getting the attention of the SAs because businessman wants to have a rant - behaviour that is against LU bylaws. Looking at the video, he was being admonished but must have said something to make ponytail change his mind. Cuntish behaviour that is excused by certain people that clearly just hat LU staff.

It's pretty much the story of a sizeable minority of london transport staff. I've seen them pick on random people just like this. It's not a one off.

A lot of London Transport staff (and that's includes bus drivers and ticket inspectors) I have come across are fucking rude, and just itching to get into a fight with anyone. Big fucking bullys.

I also love the way that thier posters say "please don't take it out on our staff... prosecutions... blah blah", when in my experince, its the staff taking whatever it is out on you (and yes BTP, that includes you too).

Yes they might be low-ish paid (or not, I'm not sure about pay), but it's a public facing role and part of their fucking job to at least try and be polite. I fear that most just do it to wear a uniform and go on a power trip.

I just watched the vid and after all the outrage here all I can say is disappointing. The guy was specifically told to wait for the police on the platform, TfL matey didn't even shout properly  "Jumped up git", hah you should hear some of the things I've called people at work when I've been stressed!

Calling for him to lose his job over this (shock horror expecting somebody to wait for the cops to show up ) is pathetic in the extreme.

I liked them all I think although I'm not a fan of the crazy hair.
Unlike Akimstan .. 'The old bastard deserve to be shout at because he doesnt listen like the many idiots in a monkey suit using your stinking subway. You fucking degenerate third world Londoners should be nice to us. You have no idea of the sort of abuse we get from you faggots!'
He only has to clip it up into a bun and put the beret on his head but the management couldn't give a shite imo. Good luck to those guys anyway I reckon.

I actually know the LU bloke - bit of a shock to see this has caught on and spread so far and wide! Anyway, he is a pretentious knob who dresses up like Jack Sparrow really far, far too often. Rarely is it ever called for, either.

Has he ever worked in a comic book shop?

As above, I did watch it before commenting. I watched it AGAIN to check how old the guy might be. Would you like me to explain that AGAIN somehow else to you?

I have no axe to grind and have been entirely honest. Bloke acts like a cunt, someone records it, bloke lives with the consequences of acting like a cunt. Dress it up any other way, ignore rational discussion, carry on defending him -facts remain the same.

The behaviour of the member of staff was reprehensible, but so too is the reaction of Boris Johnson. LUL have a perfectly adequate disciplinary system and the incident will be investigated; the station assistant will probably be sacked. The current management don't need any encouragement to sack an entry-level worker - they need to lose several hundred to meet Boris' financial cuts anyway.

What bugs me is the motivation of MacDonald the blogger who filmed the incident then posted it straight on youtube. Maybe he wants his 15 minutes, and maybe he wants money. But the description in his blog doesn't hold water. If the passenger was getting off the train when he got his arm stuck he would be inside the carriage with his arm outside - not the other way around. Presumably, and I write as a Central Line driver who has "tipped out" hundreds of trains, he ignored the instructions not to attempt to board when the doors were closing and got stuck. If the passenger deliberately held open the door, it is a breach of LT bylaws which may explain the remark about the police.

Holborn is one of only a handful of stations in central London where Central Line trains can reverse and as such can get very busy. The driver would have made several announcements as would the station staff. But once the driver leaves the cab to assist with detraining there is no way to reopen all the doors to free someone trapped. Only one door on each train can be opened from the platform, the rest have to be forced open with brute strength.

Also, Central Line trains are automatic and enter Holborn platform at 60kph; if the platform is packed, as it would be if there had been a detraiment, being the wrong side of the yellow line can be extremely hazardous. So, to request him to stand away from the platform edge is a requirement of the SA's job.

None of us know what the passenger said to the female CSA to cause such an intemperate response from her colleague. I don't know, Boris doesn't know and at the moment LUL don't know. But until we do, I think calls for dismissal are premature and misguided.

Fuck off you are honest! I would never trust you an iota, you are dishonest in your comments about cunt being elderly and him being physically stronger etc - you well know that it was never a physical confrontation yet you chose to insinuate it was an issue - why? Are you a cowardly daily mail commentator that hates people like tube workers perhaps? I really don't know your motive, but you are anything but honest so don't insult use by claiming so.

The bloke looks elderly. He is described as such by an eye witness. The tube worker is very aggressive in his manner. I have no motive. All my posts have been based on the available facts. It's clear yours are not.

It says in yesterday's "London Lite" that the tube guy (called Ian Morbin, of Romford) says he is "an easygoing Jedi".

A Jedi, from Romford.

Giles..

The bloke involved is 62, apparently.

Also Ian is generally meant to be very, very mildmannered but I think this is a classic case of a little bit of authoritah going to somebody's head. In his spare time he constantly dresses up like Captain Jack Sparrow. Even if it's not a fancy dress party and I am not even slightly fucking around on that.
