ruckus down coldharbour lane?

when i drove past at about 6.30pm, there was a big crowd in and outside one of the record shops, and over the road directly opposite (outside the cab office) - I assumed it was a gig/open mic thing. - could be left over from that.

Got a mate nearby there, she says theres some policecars and a couple of ambulances around but dosent know much else.

compared to yesterday at 5pm where there were 4 police vans and coppers all over the morleys side of the road coralling warring groups of kids. mayhem

Beanieman was at Blacker Dread's record shop on the edge of the market (opposite Rosie's) and a pretty big crowd had turned out to see him. It tuned nasty when one guy was chased by a mob up Rushcroft Road after being accused of stealing. I got caught up in the middle of it and it was pretty nasty. The guy being chased looked terrified and ended up crawling under a car to get away from the beating. They dragged him out and kept on going. The police did turn up quite quickly though and managed to drag people off him. Thank god - I really thought they were going to kill him.

it wasn't me!

Heard the same rumour last night as well at the pub, but discounted it slightly at the time.

The version I heard was that beanieman was visiting Blacker Dread and somehow managed to get his watch stolen.

yeah i saw beenie, he wuz hanging out the window above blacka dread's,
everyone looked well happy ... :)

that is interesting because all i know is that around 3 pm yesterday afternoon there was the biggest what seemed like a riot, crowd gathering about 80 people or so pushing and rowing at each other and at the police in the middle of it, on rushcroft road. it was quite a significant event because it was very big and it looked like it could get out of hand any minute. some police officers where right in the middle of it and they got a lot of shouting at ie things like don't touch my son. don't touch me etc' shortly afterwards more police have arrived. overall they looked a bit unorganised with most of them onlooking only a couple of police men getting involved and like i said terribly shouted at. it seemed like there where two things going on, some inner crowd disagreement (which must have been the stealing issue) and some letting some steam out at the police. overall it stayed more or less violent free besides pushing and screaming.

after about 20 minutes the crowd dispersed and rushcroft roads residents went back inside (from the windows).

it was a weird and not very nice vibe saturday afternoon.

we walked through all sorts of shoving and yelling on the way to the pub about 8pm, few cops around, looked like the end of something. Linerider said it had got so bad there was a stabbing, but fuck knows..

oh do fuck off. AG is as sensitive as anyone to the whole homophobia in dancehall issue. I also enjoy Beenie Man's music. doesn't mean i'm unaware of the vile content of some of his tunes.

same here, I love what little dancehall I hear, the sound's great, but the lyrics can be horrendous - but it doesn't mean that I condone such views.

Personally, I think a bit of sensitivity to Jamaican history and culture explains a lot about this issue. A kneejerk reaction, while understandable I suppose, is naive and counter-productive in the extreme.
