Royle Family special tonight

God she's good.

Laughed and got a little teary then laughed more then felt sad then laughed like a drain.
Loved it. :)

I'd forgotten how much I loved this show. And yup cried too :) it was great

absolutely superb

That was ace, really enjoyed it.

I was crying like a baby when nanna died but the buffet laid over her bed at the wake and the pile of sausage rolls really made me laugh.:D

Brilliant writing, I hope there will be another special.

That was fucking great.

I laughed my head off and bawled like a fucking babby too.

First time I'd ever seen the Royle Family. I did exactly the same  :o :( :D

Brilliant.

So, am I the only one who thought it was very good, but not *as* good as before? I just thought that it was a bit forced and obvious at at times. The minute I saw Jim dancing behind Nanna I knew she was going to die, and Chery's unlikely suitors were a bit, well, unlikely [especially Solomon]. I dunno, I was tired and grumpy last night though, maybe I'll watch it again and love it.

I also cried and cried. Couldn't stop the tears rolling. In fact I'm welling up just remembering.
Nana...
I was wondering why they didn't put it on as a Christmas special, but it's obvious now.

Laughed and cried. I thought it was fantastic.

I can think of a person from real life to fit most of the characters. I love the CA takes the piss out of these characters but in such a gentle, almost reverent way.

It's not nasty or condescending like say Little Britian.

I missed it :(

Anyone know if it's going to be repeated? I see it's being released on DVD so I reckon not...

That was so good. Cried like a bairn (also from the que sera sera bit) but laughed lots too. Actually I'm very glad I wasn't the only softy howling away at the telly...:o

i agree completely - it was great to see all the same characters again, but the writing was nowhere near as subtle and 'true' as it was in the series.

the royle family at it's best was as good as anything alan bennet could write - this was all a bit too sitcom, too many obvious gags. i thought it got better as the show went on though, and the final scenes at the wake were brilliant.

still better than pretty much anything else, mind...

Don't you think that the difference lay in the fact that it wasn't quite as real time as they could afford to be in the series (just because there was a certain amount of wrapping up they obviously wanted to do as a 'last ever')?

I found that odd to begin with - but I think it was just that slight change of format and ultimately I thought they got away with it.

cesare - you must buy the whole lot immediately now  - it's an utterly fantastic series...wonderful television.

Because I'd never seen it before I didn't even realise it was a 'last ever' :o :(

Sheo, I'm convinced! That commentary programme afterwards helped convince me too with the clips from previous programmes although I do think Gallagher is a bit of a nob tbh.

No, I agree here. Cheryl's dates were very unlikely, and the Jim/Nana thing a bit forced, but as was said the last scenes at the wake were golden...oh, and the 'Nana wanted her funeral to be fun' line was a bit too cheesy for me...on the whole though you can forgive those elements, but I wish Caroline had spotted those and de-cheesified them a bit more...

I still well up at the scene with Jim and Denise when she's goes into labour for the first time in the bathroom

god that had me crying buckets :(

its a great series, its superbly written and has many actors in I admire

*sigh*

why was Jim/Nana forced? It showed that despite their constant rows/slanging matches ultimately they just adored each other. That they did have great times as well as the rows and thats what life is about. Its not about middle ground its about the rough and the smooth, the tears and the laughter

christ if a relative of mine was that ill and that close to dying I'd do anything in my power to make them laugh (and I have before and I will again) and to me thats what it was all about

Oh thank God, I was starting to think I was being an unsentimental curmudgeon. The line I cringed at was the one when Nana was getting her hair done. 'Do you remember you used to put a red ribbon in my hair? Oh yes, my mum used to put a red ribbon in my hair etc' - I just felt they were trowelling the sentimentatlity on and it just seemed mawkish to me.

However, seeing nana in her hair extensions and false nails pretty much made up for it. :D It was still absolutely not a patch on Denise and her dad in the bathroom on Xmas day, in labour with baby David though.

see the hair thing made me cry

maybe its cos I have ageing relatives now and I have those kind of conversations :o
