Rosie Kane MSP jailed for 14 days

Oh well, she's out now, after a week.

I support the cause of getting rid of Trident. I don't approve of taking up a space in jail for publicity reasons when she can well afford to pay the fine and I don't think she should collect her salary while she's in jail.

Good God, if there's one thing worse than a self-appointed martyr, it's a whining self-appointed martyr. You chose gaol: you wanted to suffer hardship to make a political point. Bitching about how horrid it was afterwards rather defeats the purpose. And makes you look even more of a silly moo.

Danny: I certainly wouldn't expect an anarchist (glad to see there's still some around here; how do you like your babies done?) to agree with me, but since I don't expect anyone to agree with me (I know I'm always right so I don't need the affirmation ;) ) I don't really see the point of your comment.

You think?

I lost count of the number of women - and some guards - begging me to tell people what it is like. I have and I'll keep doing so. And I won't stop until we see changes to the stupid, wasteful, self defeating disgrace that sends so many of our women to jail.

Suggest you read her article in todays Sunday Mail, pal.

She was whining in the original article and I responded to the available information. I'm not a psychic.

Read the new Mail article, and to Miss Kane's credit she makes it clear at the outset that she's not looking for pity. Quite right, she's wasted overstretched resources and taxpayer's money on this egotistical stunt. I hope someone starts a campaign demanding she reimburse the treasury for the cost of her time in gaol and any court costs that haven't already been recovered.

Despite my dislike for the woman I can't deny the article is well written and contains many harrowing details about prison. I agree entirely that drug-addicts and people unable to pay fines (what is the law on this?) should never be gaoled with common criminals.

Of course it ends with the usual socialist nonsense about bribing people to be good. Not that I expected anything less, but while the likes of Miss Kane want to treat every criminal like a victim of economic circumstance, public revulsion will ensure the genuine victims in our prisons (the addicts and the mentally ill) aren't removed and helped.

I'm heartened to hear prisoners are kept on basic rations and locked in uncomfortable cells: I just think it's happening to the wrong people.

So far this year 98% of the women imprisoned in Cornton Vale were drug addicts. Rosie was one of the very few "common criminals" in there.

Who would you rather have kept on basic rations and locked in uncomfortable cells?

The violent and the greedy. People hurt other people; people who seek out weakness and exploit it ruthlessly. Not some poor bugger out of their mind on smack.

And you're quite right, Miss Kane was a common criminal. I hope she had a thoroughly rotten week and will think twice before pulling this stunt again.
