I also love rose but am a bit picky. I'm a white wine drinker and can't drink red, so prefer the lighter drier varieties. I tend to find that areas which produce good white and red which is generally regarded as good (although can't personally comment) also often produce good roses - eg. rioja, sancerre. I also like the very very pale roses like pinot grigio - really just off-white with a slight hint of pink.
There are some good new world pinks, such as from chile, but ime they tend to be heavier, though not always sweet. I'd always avoid any of the new world brand name ones - eg. blossom hill, gallo etc. tend to be very sweet and unpleasant, often made from zinfandel.
I also agree - sparkling rose is lovely. M&S do a particularly nice pink prosecco.
