Rosé wine - yes or no?

Some are really nice and others are really shit - much like any other sort of wine. I really like a nice rosé on a warm summer evening.

It's the wine of choice for me at the mo.

Used to drink red, and detest white, then it switched round, and now i can only drink rose. I may have overdone it slightly with the other 2...

I'm usually a red wine drinker, but I don't want red wine in the summer when I'd rather have a glass of something chilled.

I guess it can be a bit of a compromise for red wine drinkers as a summer drink.

But it also goes fantastically well with barbecued food.

As with any wines though there are generally good wines, and also personal tastes come into it.

A decent chilled rose is a nice thing to drink, goes well with lots of food etc and as Ann says, good for summer when red is just a bit too much.

European Rosé is generally dry... Americans do medium sweet Rosé, but that's a bit '70s.

That's not what a faux pas is. That's just plain being wrong.
Anyway it isn't wrong and hasn't really been since the 50s. Every rose I have ever had (even when said to be dry) has been way too fruity and sweet for me.

For future reference. A faux pas is a breach of social etiquette.

The Best Rose comes from the Ventoux. You also get some good ones from Provence.

The New World (USA in particular) make a load of gash.

disclaimer: all of the above is opinion, not fact. That's my personal opinion and not a statement of fact. OPINION, NOT FACT.

edit: I'm talking of the sort of new world rose that is prevailant (sp?) in the UK market. They may well make lovely rose wine, I just haven't encountered it.
