it is largely moribund and has like everywhere else been replaced by simple wealth inequaltiy, though some people don't want to accept this and try to romanticise their current position of relative low wealth as a terrible injustice which cannot be overcome without political alterations.
The Queen is essentially a celebrity like any other, a bit more rich and famous than some, not as much as others. The fact that we have to pay taxes to this celelb irks a few of us and I'm certainly not keen on supporting this institution. Personally I think if the awe-struck really want a monarchy they can pay for it and the rest of us should be able to opt-out. If people want to meet them and get all excited fine, but it is the same as meeting Beckham.
