red tomato good, green splat bad

the only film review site you'll ever need. :)
But there are only 5 reviews there currently

I know they add the others all the time and both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter have given positive reviews which have yet to be added, but I expect that the rating will come down from the 80% currently.

I've seen it, got a link to it on dvd if anyone is interested

pm's

dvd screener innit ;)

not bad film tbh

Was it as good as review made out? There's seems to be a hint of "they've done a Batman Begins with the franchise, much like they did with Bond" going on...

I wouldn't go so far as to say they've done a Batman Begins with it, as Batman Begins took a film series from being, in living memory, the worst ever (let's face it, Batman and Robin made any of the original Rocky films look like the best film ever) to having some genuine credibility (and to my mind Begins is one of the highlights of the decade so far).

This doesn't have the style that something like Batman Begins has.

However, it genuinely is a good film, and well worth watching, with some truly touching moments. There's one particular bit where Rocky gives a speech to his son that I actually thought was quite moving.

The representation of boxing itself is also much more realistic than in the original films, I thought. I liked them using reference points like "Live on HBO" (and I know that could be argued to be major product placement, but in the context it works) and having Michael Buffer as the fight introducer.

Well worth watching, IMHO, and probably a better film than all the original Rockys.

watched it on the weekend wasn't really expecting much from it but quite enjoyed it. It's one of those standard feel good films but with a bit more excitement because of the nostalgia factor and when the music comes on it is

worth a watch i rekon...6-7/10:)

You're kidding right?! You never had a quality cinema experience where the audience is right into the experience then? Poor man/woman...

FOrgot there was thread on this film here. Was soo looking forwrad to seeing this at the pictures, but managed to get a dvd rip off t'internet (perfect picture, but "property of 'whoever'" kept popping up every ten minutes or so), so watched it on the not-quite-so-big-screen.

Pretty fucking awsome. I totally think the Rocky films are shit Rocky films (1 and possibly 2 are decent) as films but I grew up with them so there is I love them at the same time, and the new one really didn'y disappoint.

we are going next friday.

we wait, nice and patient like

i shall be singing eye of the tiger until then

I want to see this.

And Rocky IV is a fucking brilliant film. James Brown, Apollo dieing, Rocky outrunning the KGB car in the snow and lifting Paulie up on the horse and cart.

If I can change, and you can change, WE CAN ALL CHANGE!!!!!

Fucking great stuff.

I actually think Rocky IV makes for fantastic viewing these days. Not a great film in itself, but a brilliant piece of cold war propaganda. Virtually a historical document.

Dam right what a classic, "I will break him"

I've just finished watching it and I loved it.

Cheesy as fuck, but made me feel good. I really rated the first Rocky movie too.

Oh god, I started watching this the other night, got about 3/40 mins into it and couldn't go on. It was dire, the dialogue was sooo bad, the plot-as much as there is one that early on-was tedious. Acting? Even worse! Will try and force myself to finish watching this weekend to get a fairer view but so far a big thumbs down.

Fucking glad I've got hold a pirate copy rather than wasting money at the flicks though...

This article in the Guardian at the weekend made me laugh http://film.guardian.co.uk/features/featurepages/0,,1987943,00.html

:D :D

This time, he will duke it out with Mason "The Line" Dixon (played by real-life boxer Antonio Tarver), an undefeated black man who, though prodigiously gifted, has never really been tested. That's because up until now he has only battled tough black men in their 20s, but has never had to face the ultimate test: a 10-round bout with a decrepit Caucasian restaurateur pushing 60.
