rockabilly

anyway - back to the music.

jack rabbit slim make some very good modern rockabilly. although the lyrics can be a bit obvious/cheesy i find. but the music's rockin'

and i've been trying to get hold of some old rockabilly/rock'n'roll movies (like hot rod gang and high school confidential but i'm not having much like, either on DVD (a couple but only on US region) or on torrents. anyone got any i can borrow, or know some good torrent sites that might have some?

I am allergic to rockabilly. My mum likes some of the old stuff, Bo Diddly, Cochrane etc which is mental and some of that is great, but The Cramps and later stuff just makes me feel physically sick if i have to listen to it.

althouuh they've done plenty of covers of rockabilly songs, and a lot of their fans are into rockabilly and all that goes with it, i wouldn't call the cramps a rockabilly band.

I played in a rockabilly band for years. Imagine my delight, then, on seeing a three page thread on the topic. Imagine my disappointment, however, on discovering two and a half of those pages are about teenage synomyms for tits. :(

To be fair, dollys is pretty late. The whole rockabilly thing was getting big in Shoreditch etc about 18 months ago, I suspect it's already in decline

Goddam I'm out of touch!

Can we have a "What the current hipster trends are" sticky so that I can keep tabs of all this?

What was the name of the band? Sting Rytes? Dead Neighbours?

In fairness, you like Simple Minds, though.

wedding disco music they were playing at the Macbeth on saturday, it was depressing. there was a hair rock night at bardens boudoir, that looked a bit more fun, i can't see it being a trend though. prog/psych/space rock? or has that happened already

Yes. whenever i used to out clubbing or drinking in Shoreditch, from the music playing, i'd always think i had inadvertently gate-crashed some middle-aged couple's wedding reception. Now i understand "wedding party disco" is in fact a cutting edge genre, unique to the Shoreditch/ Hoxton Locale and any Swedish fashion student with an Agness Deyne haircut should be afforded the same respect as Ron Hardy or Larry Levan.

i was just watching a little snippet/interview with kitty, daisy and lewis on youtube with one of my colleagues (sorry, workmates), and they were playing "mean son of a gun". my workmate asked if it was rockabilly, and i said "yeah..." and then it cut back to them talking. they said "people say we're rockabilly but we're not. generally people who don't know what they're talking about..." :o

well that song's rockabilly for sure

isn't it?

a little bit?

:(

:hmm:
