rock music for kids?

Stick some Dillinger Escape Plan on. Seriously! They'll love it, it sounds just like the inside of a child's brain.

Ace of Spades has got to go on there - just ask Dick and Dom.

I would also include Les Thugs' version of Moon Over Marin, cos it's so damn cheery, and Cannonball by the Breeders.

You have to go ska surely?????

What young un wont like a bit of madness, less than jake and reel big fish. Happy happy bouncey smiley joy!

Other then that i'd just have a look at what rock music is on the latest now thats what i call the best album in the wrold ever 2007 part 4 type compilation and go with that sorta thing.

My head of year has asked me to stick a CD together of rock/indie/alt stuff that's suitable for a bunch of hyperactive 5 - 7 year olds to dance to at break time?

Anyone got any ideas of some kid friendly stuff :D

My toddler likes

Queens of the Stone - Regular John (first track off their eponymous first one)
Pixies - Doolittle (pretty much the whole album)
Mastodon - The Wolf Is Loose
Bon Jovi - Living On a Prayer
Frank Black - eponymous debut album
GnR - Appetite for Destruction (whole album)

Kenickie, and some early Ash might work. AC/DC perhaps, with careful choice of subject matter, and some Ramones would be great. Andrew WK too, although the music is very heavy, although poppy too.

VERY sweary though so maybe not the best choice for kids old enough to actually listen to/understand the lyrics :p

If it weren't for that I would suggest System of a Down too as both of mine have loved them (until they were old enough to start repeating things, then we had to shelve that for a while....:hmm: )

My 4 and a half year old's favourite ever track is Empire by Kasabian, she also really likes Fratellis, REM, Manu Chao/Manu Negra, Snow Patrol etc etc

I've got to get each of my classes to perform a song at the English show next month.

I played my tape of nursery rhymes to two classes and they liked it, choosing a couple of songs each.

I then played it to a third class and they started protesting that "Wo men bu shi baby". They requested "We Will Rock You". I shall now teach them it, but I fear that they expect only to have to sing the chorus and bang on something. They're going to have to learn each and every line now, the brats!

Meanwhile, it will be a waste of a CD to just burn one song on it so I'm making one of kid-friendly songs.
