Rock / Metal - help needed

funnily, i played 'join the army' the other day and was surprised how ace it still sounds. such a raw album that. and how can anyone not laugh at the lyrics in 'institutionalized?' (from 1st album)

'all i wanted was a pepsi. and she wouldn't give it. just one pepsi...' :)

too right on Rust in Peace - the riffs in that is tight.
Exodus. Xentrix - lol!! forgot about them!

you also had testament - a very underrated thrash band from the day.

I saw Testament at Clash of the Titans, sandwiched between ST and Megadeth. They didn't make much of an impression tbh. They used to crop up on the Headbangers Ball on MTV of a Sunday night quite a bit though. Chuck Billy wasn't it? Memories..

Saw Suicidal last year, wasn't sure what to expect cos last time I saw them was ten years back, but they played one of the best show's I've ever seen, tight as fuck and played tons of early stuff too.

clash of the titans in the early '90s at the birmingham NEC right?
i was there. testament had a 30mins slot right? and so did ST.
did you realise their sound was crap compared to slayer and megadeth.

yep chuck billy and alex scholnik

to the OP, if the bands you're engineering are on the heavier side of things, have a look on the Relapse Records site and listen accordingly.

...they did Mastodon and High on Fire, who seem both popular with the kids and critically acclaimed.

the best metal band i've heard lately are called Intronaut, i know nothing about them tho. :)

the problem with bands like high on fire, mastadon, isis and the like is that - excellent though they are - metalheads don't listen to them. or they might do, but they certainly don't dance to 'em. just put reign in blood on repeat...

or do what the soundman at our local gig venue does, and play dub inbetween the acts...

I recommend some power metal, like blind guardian and dragonforce and that kind of stuff. Some Guns & Roses will go down well as well, as will a few other 80s hair metal stuff (think Poison or something).

You should drop in a few unexpected things as well!

Then play them this - some metalheads like this brill band too. A great drinking song..

kids round here get sniffy about gallows. not 'metal' enough, apparently.

a quick glance through my local metal forum's '...now rocking out to' thread, as well as perrenial favourites like slayer, pantera & the like, current favourites include opeth, meshuggah, cult of luna, dragonforce, anathema, rhapsody, dream theater & enslaved. there's a few kids who love their black metal too, but that's unlikely to go down too well at a normal metal night...
