Robin Hood new series

it was alright, watchable enough - i'll carry on watching the series. thought robin seemed a bit too smug for my liking at times, though. and considering the amount of time he seemed to take whilst shooting arrows through the ropes to cut the hangees down whilst doing his speech i'm quite surprised that no-one seemed to try and stop him until afterwards.

I missed the very start, but I think it could turn out to be good enough. I'm a Robin Hood general enthusiast like some other posters, and the refreshing aspect of the whole legend is the fact that it was an amalgamation of other stories and folk-beliefs in the first place. Each re-telling of the story tells you as much about the prevaling social milieu of that particular time as anything else.
As I was telling my young niece after watching it last night, most ordinary people can relate to a story about someone standing up to a bully.
I don't like to immediately compare it to previous Robin Hoods', like Robin of Sherwood, ( and I have the DVDs' too, and it certainly stands up when watching it now!)
The Mel Brooks "When things were rotten" is really good fun,
but don't think its' out on DVD.
I think the title song had the line " He robbed the rich, to give to the poor, except what he kept for expenses!":)

Maid Marian and her Merry Men is one of my faves, rather see that re-run than this latest version...

Well i liked it, as others have said good family style programme, Robin can show me his bow any day:o , its got Keith Allen which means panto laughs a go go. Its nice easy to watch before you go out to the pub telly and it doesnt have Ant, Dec or Graham Norton in it. PERFECT :D :D

did I spy a Rufus Sewell as one of the Sheriffs men? *goes to check*

it was ok but, I don't know, seemed to lack something

although did anyone see Jonathon Ross's thing on Robin yesterday I think it was? That was interesting :)

Richard Armitage probably, plays Guy. I know a chap called John Armitage who looks a bit like him wonder if it's his brother. He's a real fucking cunt though.

They should do "Tales of Arthur" one day, Tristram and Iseult, Geraint and Enid, Gawain and the Green Knight et al.

Yes, wonderful line.

Looking forward to meeting Little John, Friar Tuck, Prince John et al.:)

No Friar Fuck in this one. Thanks to the influence of Jamie Olive. Obese role models, apparently, set a bad example to the youth of today.

Yeah, I watched the repeat, having heard good reports, and have to say I was disappointed. I was a huge fan of the Michael Praed series (Clannad an all :o ) and this didin't seem to have any of the magic of that. Doubt I'll watch it again.

The new one was never going to be anything like RoS, no pagan stuff for starters.

The first two series of RoS were great, have the DVD.

Had Legend on tape in the 80s too and got it on CD now.

I saw some of this Robin Hood thing last night. It was absolutely bloody atrocious.
The acting was dire, the actions shots were dire, the costumes were iffy and the chainmail was f*cking KNITTED!!!

Hate it, plots are boring and repetitious already after just 2 episodes, bring back Michael Praed I say :)

I like it. I didn't think I would cos I thought Michael Praed couldn't be equalled, but I like this and am taping it.

I like a Knight's Tale.

And Mists of Avalon (Arthurian) dvd is ok, not as good as the book, they should've given it 9 hours like LoTR.

I think it will be a bit of a slow burner, despite not having that immendiate appeal. Yes, it has its' flaws, like every version before it. The good thing is that it is has its' own particular identity as a story. However, shame about the title music.
And if Friar Tuck realy has been excluded because of his weight, then that is inexcusable fattism. Shame!

Thought I'd give it another go after being slightly underwhelmed last week - but the 2nd episode wasn't just ab it underwhelming. It was terrible. Very bad acting, little or no plot, shit dialogue, and dodgy production values. That's it for me.

It's just not very good. Keith Allen is a very good Sheriff, Marion is ok but Robin is weedy and unconvincing, and the plots are lightweight.

Even the little snippets of anti-war politics - Keith Allen's amusing speech about the rule of law, the state, and training camps in the middle east for fermenting extremists to teach them to undermine the values of order - isn't enough to get me watching avidly.

That is definitely the most interesting thing about it - but I couldn't bring myself to watch Robin's smug permagrin for the rest of the show to tune in just for that.:(

That and his ability to NOT ACT!

I don't watch Robin Hood for political rhetoric; there's already enough in the basic story. I don't need thinly veiled iraq war commentary when i sit down for my 7pm saturaday night's entertainment.

After two episodes my conclusion is - piss poor.

A decent adventure drama needs pithy dialouge, gripping plot lines, exhilirating action, dramatic tension, engaging characters and convincing performances.

This has none of them. as well as the absence of these essentials it hsas extr bad points - the half baked philosophical musings, Robins pomposity, Keith Allen's pantomine performance, lack of any convincing historical detail and the complete absence of the depiciton of any actual violence - leaving us to 'thrill' to bloodless fight scenes that look like playground wrestling.

Also its way to clean looking - no boils or pustules and a marked absence grusome dertimitological afflictions generally.

And I really wanted to like it too.
