Robert Downey Jr blacks up for new film

While we are at it whats the official Urban75 stance on the film 'Soul Man' ?

I posted a picture of the black up job they did ion that film a few posts ago. Was trying to be all cryptic an' that :)

Posh kid gets cut off from his rich daddy so takes an over dose of tanning pills and pretends to be black so he can go to college on a scholarship. Cue lots of non-pc 'black' jokes.

Not really the same as the one in this thread tbf.

Sounds awful. What's even worse though is that it stars C. Thomas Howell. :(

Perhaps. But if we only ever discussed the major issues on here, Urban would be a pretty desolate place.

Discuss is one thing. However English culture, whether right or left, seems to have this daily mail esque need to pronounce upon and decry things. Why can't we just accept some things as being a bit crap, or slightly dodgy but not worth worrying about?

Oh, I agree. But the story, as I first understood it, was definitely worthy of some discussion I thought.

In regards to the issue decrying stories, in a Daily Mail esque fashion. Well, it's hard to supress gut reactions to some stories, be it revulsion or appreciation. On a BB it's possibly exemplified perhaps due to the lack of complete information on the actual story (my mistake on this thread :o). This is an unfortunate side-effect of the fast-paced culture we live in, but we can all become susceptible to it I feel, regardless of how hard we try not to be. Point is though, perhaps beyond these initial knee-jerk reactions, healthy debate can occur IMO.

this film seems to satirise actors blacking up for film parts. And it looks funny, too. Good stuff.
