Rob Newman's History of Oil

django said:
I've had this book for around 18 months; I'd highly recommend it. I'm attending a workshop next week where the author, Richard Heinberg is one of the speakers.

Robert Newman is really onto something here; the oil situation promises to become one of the defining issues of the 21st century. Here's two more suggested books: Beyond Oil: the View from Hubbert's Peak by Kenneth S Deffeyes and Twilight in the Desert: the Coming Saudi Oil Shock and the World Economy by Matthew R Simmons.

We've been having a discussion re the oil situation on this other thread; it's somewhat long so this link takes you to latest posts (as of July 09): A Petroleum Geologist explains US War Policy

Saw this thread and decided to watch this prog.

Very entertaining and interesting.

Would have liked to question him over WWI being the invasion of Iraq as I didn't quite agree with him on that, but other then that I thought he was spot on.

Saw this last night, thanks to VP, (thanks mate, I owe you a pint  )
and I thought it was stunning. So consice and yet brilliantly explained.
I think it should be on the school curriculum. In fact I'm definately going to watch it again with my teenagers.
To think, I've always just believed the whole Archduke Ferdinand thing...
