Appeal to identify cyclist in Staines road rage incident

A cyclist caused £1,000 of damage to a car after "becoming angry" over the way the vehicle was driven past him and two other bike riders.

The car, an Audi Q5, overtook three cyclists as it was being driven along the A308 towards the M25.

Police said that when the driver stopped at the roundabout one of the cyclists became verbally abusive, punching the window, side panel and wing mirror several times.

Eyebrows!

This is not a judgement on the incident in question, but it's astonishing how easily one can apparently cause a four-figure amount of damage to a car, according to garages/ insurers anyway. I wonder how many cars have been written off for cosmetic damage that does not compromise the vehicle's security at all and not worse than what millions of cars around the world have.

A grand's worth of damage on a car like that isn't anywhere near a write off. No one has to accept the insurance write off - you can always chose the keep the car with the damage if it doesn't affect it mechanically

I know it isn't for such a car, but if it was a cheaper & older vehicle, and the cyclist had kicked three or four panels instead of one, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2.5k plus estimate.

Would the insurance pay you the cash value of the car if it was written off and you decided to keep it?

It's the whole putting it back to the way it was before thing isn't it? Some fucker bashed into my door the other day - I won't get it repaired because it's going to cost a stupid amount of cash. Paint jobs are much more expensive than they used to be.

I think my sister got the cash and sort of vaguely repaired her car a few years back when the insurance company wanted to write the car off. It wasn't worth much intrinsically but it was a solid car which had been hit hard when it was stationary so a lot of the damage was cosmetic

You want to poach a different-coloured door off a scrap car. :)

Thinking of that, how come you never see mismatched doors on cars anymore? It used to be commonplace for people to drive round in tatty old sierras or transits with different coloured bits. Are there technical reasons (such as electric windows) that make it harder or less cost-effective to do a swapover? Are second-hand cars cheap enough that people just buy a replacement car rather than keep older ones running longer?

I hate it when people do all that "Do you know who I fucking am?"

Last time someone did that when I was around he proceeded to try and beat up my mates girlfriend :ffs:

My second shift in new bookies after I got a transfer back to Edinburgh, and the local young team start kicking off after the deputy manager challenged them for ID.

Leader of the Young Team: [thinking he could throw his weight around with a middle-aged lady of small stature] "Do you ken wha' my da' is?"

Dep. Man.: [without blinking] "No. Do you?"

Poor wee guy looked like a neutered dog as he was laughed out the shop.

This morning:
Guy in front of me stops dead in the middle of the road (busy A road) , gets out of his car, leaving the fucking door open so blocking traffic in both directions, to yell at a bloke who was parked by the side of the road who opened his door without looking. This went on for at least 5 minutes. Others start joining in and as fast as he started, bloke gets back in car and drives off at speed. WTF? Yeah, the bloke who opened his door was a tosser but really?

How so?

By waiting until its safe to turn right across oncoming traffic?
The road looks wide enough for him to have waited to turn right closer to the centre line and allowed the traffic behind to pass him on the left. Instead he stops right in the middle of the lane.

He's perfectly entitled to stop wherever he wants in that lane to turn right. If you're pulling into the middle of the road to turn right, you're asking for trouble when an HGV comes flying down the opposite lane.

It seems to me you're just being deliberately obstructive to common sense.

There was no HGV, he could see the road ahead for a quarter mile as well as the oncoming gaps, there was a huge space between the Citroen and the X5 that he didn't take ..... etc ...

I reckon you're a traffic cammer, Sim.

Without knowing the road you can't say this - the cameras used have wide angle lenses which will make the lane look wider than it is (also how fast the road is changes how someone is likely to feel about stopping traffic or letting drivers undertake).

Ronnie Pickering seemed to have an issue with him filtering at the roundabout for some reason though and is obviously a cunt and spoiling for a fight so I'd be more inclined to think that he was just being a cunt and objecting to the motorcyclist not turning right in the gap in front of one of the oncoming cars (cba to rewatch, guessing that's the citreon and the x5 you mention), which I thought was big enough to turn in, rather than because he was sat in the middle of the lane and could have been far enough right to let cars come on his inside. Having said that, I know that if a driver was like that with me at the roundabout I'd be tempted to follow my entitlements to the letter rather than being courteous to them, it's not a surprising reaction if that's what did happen, and still leaves me scratching my head as to why Ronnie was aggro at the roundabout.

In any case, we all know who Ronnie Pickering is now :D Not sure that's what he wanted to be known for tbf.

Hardly....

You have no clue about that road do you? Honestly now eh?

Basically the bald headed prick got pissed off because moped man queue hopped in front of him approaching a roundabout, and probably has that "can't let them in front of me" mentality, which dickheads tend to have. Dickhead pickering then got his dickhead knickers in a twist because he was being inconvenienced by someone safely trying to turn right across a road...... then dickhead pickering felt like trying to relive the grandure of the glory days when he was the hard man of hull by offering to bareknuckle with someone who although may have inconvenienced him by a whole 10 seconds, but did so absolutely legitimately.

There is only one conclusion to be made then....... Ronnie Pickering is a weapons grade dickhead.

Pickering was being a twat but the scooter man clearly trolled him thinking he'd escalate it. He could have taken the right turn easily.

This may explain Ron's behaviour...

SO-CALLED ‘road rage’ may simply be the result of being a bad-tempered bastard in any given situation.

The Institute for Studies found road rage sufferers became enraged in any environment, including libraries, the countryside and sitting quietly on a stool.

Professor Henry Brubaker said: “When we placed sufferers in calm environments such as a Chinese water garden they still became angry, in one case resulting in a man trying to punch a koi carp for ‘swimming in a really selfish way’.

“I now believe they are simply angry about everything all the time, as evidenced by a word association test in which some otters, the colour blue and a child’s tea cup were all described as ‘bastards’.”

Office manager Donna Sheridan said: “I admit I occasionally fly off the handle and chase a cyclist for 15 miles.

“But I’m not like that when I’m not driving, apart from my constant rows with everyone and that time I punched a vicar because the funeral was taking bloody ages.”

The scooterist seemed to be somewhat lacking in clue it has to be said - especially given the wet conditions.
I've had quite a few encounters with them in recent years as a cyclist.

Anyone catch this ? Less rage more obstinance. I wonder whether the crowds anger actually prolongs the stand off ?

I've been stuck behind people doing that on some of the backroads where I live...... was there about 10-15 minutes..... after much arguing it turned out one was being obstinent, and the other didn't know how to reverse..... so I just reversed their car for them
