Road bike tyres

SCHWALBE MARATHON PLUS.

People really need to use these tyres.

I've done over 600 miles on them in the past two weeks and not one puncture. Very grippy, low rolling resistance.

According to a lot of tourers I've spoken to and numerous reviews on cycling forums, they last for thousands of miles and are almost unpuncturable - you can stick a drawing pin in the middle and it won't penetrate.

Amazing tyres.
I like these too, definitely grippier than the gatorskins I have on my other bike

after killing my conti gator skin hardshell within 9 months i can safely say that bontrager race lite hard cases are the best tyres ever. i've used and thoroughly destruction tested pretty much every road tyre designed for commuting (schwalbe durano and durano plus being notable exceptions, they have very similar construction to the conti hardshells so won't be much different) and they have the best mix of puncture resistance, long life and handling.

After a few years of using them I'm after something lighter than Marathon Plus tyres. Just getting a bit sick of the weight of them. Are these Bontragers better than Schwalbe Blizzards? 'cause I hate Blizzards. From previous experience they seem to slip too easily and also puncture too easily.

I put a pair of the Michekin Krylions - 23c - on the road bike last October, been ridden near enough every day since, still waiting on the first puncture....

never used blizzards, i'm not that keen on schwalbe tyres due to their extremely variable QC... still fit marathon plus tyres to the bicycle of any mate who can't fit their own tubes though. i take it you know which end of a tyre lever is which right? ;)

Ok so I got some of the Bontrager tyres and am happy with them so far. Fairly confident cornering on them in the wet. Not too heavy. Early days (just over 2 months) but no punctures yet...

Is the general consensus that Bontrager Race Lites are better than Schwalbe, despite being cheaper?

My experience is that the Bontragers are highly variable. Schwalbe have their own manufacturing facility in Korea but Trek/Bontrager just sub everything out to whichever Chinese sweatshop is the cheapest that week.

Continental GP 4000s are good but you'll probably only get 2,000km out of a rear.
