I'm with Mrs Magpie on this - much, much easier to do a risk assessment now there's clear guidelines - the numbers are merely a tool but a good and workable one, and it's a good deal more concrete and quantifiable to say 'on a scale of 1-4, we have assessed this risk to be 2 based on impact and probability' than effectively say 'it's a little bit risky, but not too much'.
Risks have to be identified and acknowledged and strategies put in place to minimise these risks, regardless of the situation.

- but they do help me with my job to quantify and record but it is also a preverbial pain in the ass as well. I have already undertaken risk assessment on the 12 ft crimbo tree ive ordered for the foyer in readiness for the tenant twats upstairs with no bloody work to do.
